PC Card (PCMCIA) Mp3 Issues - 2007 S600
Thanks for looking - I have an 07 s600. I bought a PCMCIA sled with an 8GB CF card. I loaded 2 Mp3's to test...the car reads the MP3s correctly (title name.mp3) but it won't play. I hear nothing and the tracks to not move (time). I've ejected and re-inserted a few times, no joy.
Any ideas of what could be wrong? It's not critical, but would be nice to rotate the mp3s without having to burn disks.
Thanks,
Erik

Hello,
I do not know for sure my case will apply to your car : I got a 2008 C class. I used 4 in one PMCIA adapter to play music on SD card. Only 2GB SD card will play (no 4, 6 or 8 GB SD card will play). Try 2GB to see whether it play ?.

Please do not confuse others with the SD card issues, this has been discussed so many times here and at the 204 forum and at the audio section. SD HC cards are good as long as the PCMCIA adapter is SD HC capable, not all are, not even the first original MB adapters.
This was about a CF card and the above issue does not concern this case.
The reasons for the car not playing the MP3 files from the memory card could be:
- the files are not MP3 after all but some other format like AAC
- the MP3 coding parameters are not correct (manual says which are accepted, unlikely this issue though)
- the files are DRM protected
- something else?

I have experimented quite a lot with cbr vbr and several quatization formats 128 kbps-320 kbps on the mp3's.
The outcome on the Comand NTG3 with an original MB Pcmcia SD HC remains unstable : sometimes 32GB class 10 are read ok and sometimes it gets stuck ..to the point where I could only listen to the radio until a fresh start of the whole vehicule..
Outcome always the same for lower class and capacity SD-cards.
I have given up on the whole pcmcia thing and I either use the CD audio or listen to the radio ..
Planning to have the aux installed soon then go the 'Mike 5215' method without Comand integration..

I thought NTG3 did not (officially) support variable rate at all? I have used Sandisk CF and "6 in 1" types of adapters and simple MP3 files (produced with iTunes, just changed from the default compression mode to MP3) and have not seen any problems even with SD HC cards.

PCMCIA Compact Flash Card Adaptor
Hi All,
Grateful if any one could help me, I have Mercedes-Benz C-Class car. I wanted to play mp3 music through the command APS. i bought Ex-Pro® PCMCIA Compact Flash Card Adaptor for Mercedes COMAND APS systems (S E C GLK Class) and i tried many ways (I used with scan disk SDHC card 4GB, Samsung sd adapter, and 1GB MLC SD pure media card with mp3 music in it) but the command system doesn’t recognise or some reason not working.

I have a 2010 E550 coupe and can't get my unit to even recognize that there is anything on the SD card.
I am using an old 6-in-1 multicard PCMCIA adapter with a 64GB SanDisk SDXC I (45MB/s). It reads perfectly well in my laptop, and I tried putting a number of different mp3's (no DRM, ripped by myself from my CDs). Is this more likely to be a case of the PCMCIA adapter not being totally compatible with the SD card, even though I can use it fine in Windows?
Are there any recommended combinations of PCMCIA adapter and memory card that are tried and tested? I'd prefer the maximum size possible, as I have about 120GB of music.
Is there anyway to load the 6GB onboard storage other than using music CD's, as I have left those in storage on another continent?

I don't think there is any MP3 memory card format. The car (head unit) manual tells which formats it supports (FAT16, FAT32, possibly something else).
Would be good to have a laptop with a PCMCIA slot that would allow testing the adapter. Many SD-card adapters do not support SD HC cards (usually SD cards above 2 GB).

I encoutered issue with my command NTG 3.0. Sometimes it play mp3 and sometimes it not. When it not the car reads the MP3s correctly (title name.mp3) but it won't play. I hear nothing and the tracks to not move (time) until I on/off key several time.
I'm sure format of mp3 file is correct, The thing I don't know is whether command NTG3.0 or SD interface problems? Any idea?

if u don't have bird's eye view on nav (and even so if later stuff came out) then highly likely things are wrong - this update was almost always customer paid request - dealers never bother
and 99.9999% of owners never botherd

how up to date is the comand/telematics software... ?

no I'm thinking it left the factory with a comand unit for of bugs and missing features... I believe there were three attempt at making it work correct.
1) destroyed the mute for overlaid messages from nav or traffic
2) tried to fix the mute feature by introducing a naff bodge on
3) fixed multiple minor bugs re-did the overlay mute feature perfectly, re-did audio playback from memory cards, introduced traffic to USA region, added 3D map view (merc name bird's eye mapping)
already added this on one post u gave

I have bird's eye mode but it does NOT mute properly during nav announcements. Very annoying actually because it plays them at music volume, while the music plays. More fun for my "version" of COMAND.
#22
that's interesting...
Mine worked to perfection pre bird's eye and post bird's eye - then an update we applied using dealer online SCN update process in 2019, broke it... but we didn't know which update we did that caused it - as we did a few over a number of months and I wasn't using the nav in-between... I have been chasing a fix for 3 years
Note between the manu breaking it in a 2006 update, Merc appear to have been so confused they didn't understand why they broke it nor were able to resolve it. And this stems from utter incompetence at the factory re how they really built it - as their technical info seems to say they built the car with user menus to adjust it (like other Merc's of this era had). If they did its not on my car and not in the owners manual.
Whatever they had leaving the building they still broke it during one update, and not knowing how to resolve they bodged on an any sound Source above 75% vol, mute for traffic or nav overlay in a 2007 temp fix. Then properly restored the real functionality in another later update, but leaving behind the bodge fix too.
I now (having basically replaced modules one by one with older software ), am fairly convinced its a pathetic instrument cluster update that breaks the proper mute for overlay messages. They built the early cars with cheap nasty LCD screen that doesn't like cold temps and fires up purple, so rather than fix their flagship car. A rarely applied wind up the brightness to max during daylight is supposed to help. Its doesn't, the screen remains purple for the first 8 minutes of use below 5C and the nav breaks

I've never had an issue changing the volume of the nav voice or had the mute function not work on my GM cars, that's for sure (same era, too). Actually I was also surprised that there appears to be no menu to change the volume of the nav announcements. I got clever and tried adjusting the volume immediately during an announcement and that at least changes the volume of that. So I turned it up. Still doesn't mute my music though.

yep, grown up cars give the user a choice. - its not like its earth shattering difficult to have a user selectable default traffic vol, nav vol, and source level is it. But on Merc they tried to be too clever...
in my fathers W211 if you turn the vol to nothing during a nav comand, then you NEVER know how to turn it back on... you have to guess when she's speaking and turn the vol up (you can try after setting a new destination as she always says something at it start off), but at least you get the speed dependant vol user menu.
whereas on the w221 it ends up great if you set it right and leave it alone, but something broke mine in 2019 and we haven't worked out how to resolve it... Its not the amp/tuner, the rear SAM, or the comand knob
