Unless the car is being used as a limo, a tiny fridge that only holds a few cans is a lame idea IMO. It takes up a ton of trunk space and has no practical purpose. It only runs when the car is running, so it would take a long time to chill any drink. And the cost is insane for something so small that uses up a bunch of your trunk space. It would make a lot more sense to spend the money making sure your car repairs are done right and to a high standard than blowing it on something so ridiculous. But then again, you do have a thread that is currently at 25 pages that is the epitome of ridiculous. So I guess you should ignore the advice of the sensible people and do whatever you want. Maybe your comrades can hack it in there for you.

T These cans would take a lot to fill the refrigerator , more useful than standard 330 ml coca cola cans

It has worked fine and is used to store only water and sometimes fish and meat on the way back from the grocery store.

Nope, that is some sorta plastic but a very hard one ,still looks like new
Thanks for your compliment on the watch , YM II model . I really don't mean to tout the watch or sending this very cool topic off its course but seriously I didn't have a pic with that Perrier only
I believe W222 also available with bottle cooler in cupholders ,this may kinda cancel out having a refrigerator to cool the drinks but wouldn't mind having one of these in any car

Hey Nuru, I'm planning to order the necessary posts this weekend.

When you installed the wire harness to fuse #139. Did it require any soldering?

Problem I have is it is too far to reach in the back for a cold one. Wish I had a coupe.

Had to instruct the kids to keep handing them to me as I steer with my knees on the way to lacrosse matches.

Nope it does not. You order the fuse carrier and it just plugs in. You have to route it to the Fridge via the the trunk foward panel. BTW, are you going to order a new Fridge or a used one? If you go new, you probably want to order from one of the following:

www.mercteil.com they also sell pull outs which are much cheaper, their new price delivered, is far cheaper than at any dealer
www.mercedespartssuperstore,com
www.getmercedesparts.com

I got mine used off of German ebay and it was pretty cheap, even with shipping.

My Fridge takes about 30 - 40 minutes to get cold, but then it tends to stay cold for a while. Suits me fine for my intown and any short and long trips with the family.

Ah but you can use a long grabbing device to open the fridge and grab whatever you want including raw fish!

I dunno, having both sounds like a good idea depending on how many beers you want to take with you . I think I have 10 or so bottles of water in the frigde right now and I have not tries to stuff any hard canns in there. However with passengers in the back seat, and the fridge mounted on some specialized rails, I could have them slide the fridge back and grab cans from the trunk to reload the fridge so that it would take a long time to run out on a trip of a couple of hours. With the cupholder coolers, that seems like another retrofittable feature, Hmmmmm?

I'd love to see someone do that retrofit!

How many people have this option in the United States?

Does the fridge make the trunk hot? Have you used it on any long trips? How long does it take to cool drinks in it?

The trunk fridge makes zero sense. If you want to gauge how long it will take to cool a drink when you start your car, then grab a college mini fridge, put in a few bottles of non-chilled water, then plug it in. You'd probably need a couple of hours to chill drinks....so really only good on a two hour + trip....or if your putting cold drinks in there to start with, they won't lose their coldness as fast as having no fridge.

Better advice: Spend $15 on a Coleman cooler, $2 on a bag of ice, and chill your drinks a lot faster and keep them ice cold. Also, you can keep it in reach to grab your drinks as you can put it behind the front passenger seat. This works great unless you alligator arms.

I think the only reason people buy these silly devices is to try and impress their friends. It probably also explains why some folks buy these cars cheap with high miles.

My 4Runner has a dual cupholder right in front of the AC vent on the front dash. I can chill at bottle of water in about 30 min to icy cold, then in the winter I can heat up coffee.

Remove rear bench seat cushion by reaching under the bench seat cushion, between the cushion and floor, pushing fastening locks in to release the hooks (NOTE: this part of the procedure is only for cars without the Rear seat package.)

Then unbolt the Rear Backrest by unscrewing the two outside bolts and the nut on the floor mounted mounting point bolt at the middle of the backrest bottom.

Rear Backrest Passenger side bolt

Rear Backrest Middle Mount

Rear Backrest Driver's side bolt

Once the rear backrest bolts are removed, then you should lift up the rear backrest and pull the bottom forward to remove the rear backrest. Exposing the Cabin side take-up device.

Remove the Cabin side Take-up device by unscrewing the two 4.9 x 19mm screws on each side off the take-up device.

Install new/replacement take-up device for options 282 and 308 (A221 840 0055)

Re-install rear backrest and rear seat cushion, reversing the removal steps.

Trunk:
Remove inner Panels, replace Stiffening Frame with 282/308 options Stiffening frame (221 640 06 19) Two bolts at top and two nuts at the bottom. Install top bolts first, then bottom nuts. While stock Stiffening frame is out of the car and before you install the 282/308 Stiffening frame (221 640 06 19), install the harness and fuse into the Rear SAM (221 440 74 05)

Harness for Rear SAM to the Fridge electrical connection

Rear SAM Slot - 139 - install harness into this slot in the rear SAM.

Once you have installed the Stiffening Frame and the Harness, you should install the 282/308 option Rear Panel (221-694-01-25-9F28)

Next install the Trunk-side Take-up device for option 282/308 (221 840 01 55)

Next install the End of the harness into the rear of the harness cover/bracket (A1296900114)

Next install the Harness cover/bracket into the 282/308 Rear Panel of trunk

Ok, now the car is ready for the Fridge or skis, or 4"x8" boards, etc. Now to save up for the fridge and a two post lift (two axle brake jobs and the lift will pay for itself.)

Thank you for the parts numbers! Made it easy on the parts guy at Mb of Ptown!

I've found from experience that if you study something to death, you can then manipulate the subject matter with confidence.

No it does not make the trunk hot. It typically takes about 30 - 40 minutes to get cold on a hot day. Cool day, about 30 minutes.

W222 S Class with Panoramic roof, Distronic plus, Fridge, Towbar and TV!
Just found this thread... I carried out this modification when I got my 2006 221. I was lucky as I found a guy on Ebay who was selling the fridge from his 12 month old car. I managed to persuade him to let me remove the frame, panel and all the trims and replaced them with my own from my car. I did the work on the side of the road outside his house and the total cost was £300 which is a bargain! I bought the loom from my local dealer but that was all I needed

I have just started to remove it now after 6 years to fit into my facelift 221. It seems a lot harder second time around

You're a little late to the party. I thinks it's been almost 2 years since Mercedesbenzs55 sold his heap and fridge to some poor unsuspecting sap. But I'm pretty sure he kept the mallet.

Since you're new here, you might want to check out his thread about the boneyard wreck he purchased that led to the fridge. It's the best thread in the history of the internet and will keep you entertained for hours. Even a screenplay came out of it. Be sure to read it from beginning to end. You don't want to miss out on any of the action.
