Hello all,
I am in the market for a 2014 S-Class Mercedes with low miles. I was looking at a 2013 but realized that the new body style came out in 2014 so I am focusing on that right now. Since I am new to this forum I thought I would ask some questions as I begin this journey. They are:
- Smart to focus on the 2014 given the new body/etc or am I making too much of this? I plan on purchasing it and will own it for 5+ years.
- I want to focus on a CPO vehicle - smart or too limiting to number of vehicles that I would want to look at? Should I get an extended warranty above the CPO one?
- I notice when looking at the 2014 multiple wheel sizes (18, 19, 20"). Is there a preferred size of tire that people on the forum suggest?
- Options. I usually like a nicely optioned car but don't want to add too much to this already expensive car by adding unnecessary options. Any must have or ones I should keep away from?
I live in Northern California and am willing to travel up to 500 miles to purchase this car. That does give me some flexibility which I hope benefits me by increasing the choices I have to choose from.
Thanks in advance for your help with these basic questions. I'm sure that I will benefit greatly by your experience/insight.
Regards,
Dave

It's a lot more than a new body style. Personally I'd rather have a loaded up 2012+ s550 or a 2010+ s600 for that kind of money. Go drive one of each and decide.

Offer them $58k and run if it's in pristine condition.Originally Posted by dpayne7571

Same thing I was thinking Jason. It has 7,500 more miles than the one listed for 58,995 and exact same car. Told them I wanted to deal local so we will see, but that they needed to definitely beat the deal up the road.Originally Posted by Jason B

Agree. That's a lot of car for $60k. Alx can probably tell you how much the dealer has in it.Originally Posted by Jason B

It does, download the IB Automotive app for Iphone. Free.

If you don't download the app, there is a way to use the mobile version of this site too I think.

Order yourself up one of those Tune2Air streaming bluetooth adapters so you can play music on your Iphone wirelessly.

Beautiful car - love the color combo.
I'm still not used to 3 spoke sport wheels(vs trad'l AMG), but it's growing on me.

I still remember the first time I drove an S... A 2005 S500, and it was so quiet and smooth I actually laughed out loud on the test drive. I bought the car on the spot. Unfortunately I hadn't told my wife I was out car shopping so when I brought it home she was PISSED.Originally Posted by dpayne7571

Luckily right after that our daughter's cheerleading team won a bid to a competition that was a 12 hour drive away. I believe I was officially forgiven after the 2nd hour, when she discovered the massaging seats and realized we were doing a steady 100 mph in near total silence.

Yeah. When I park I usually have to have someone on the bow fending off the dock.Originally Posted by hyperion667

LOL. This was my wife just two years ago when almost bought one. Well she was hesitant to know what to say when I came home yesterday, but by the 1st hour into our 4 hour drive last night, she was grinning the whole time the way it rode and amentites compared to our e class and ML.Originally Posted by Mike5215

Nothing else in the MB line, for more money or less money, rides like an S.Originally Posted by dpayne7571

Have to agree. I now have a 2015 black on black AMG E class as a loaner. It's very nice looking with the AMG accents and chrome lower lips, but the interior feels cheap and it doesn't ride anything like the S. It's nice, $66,000 sticker, but it's no S. Makes you feel good.Originally Posted by Mike5215

My dealership is 20 min away and tries to give S class owners at least an E class or new M class, but my other dealer that's 45 min away gives you an S class if you give them an S class. It's just a pain when it's that far away, when the other dealer is so close, but I may want to try out a new 2015 S next time for fun.
