20" Tire size

I recently purchased the s65 forged wheels, I got a great deal on them. The tires are the oem setup

255/35/20 Front
275/35/20 Rear

The tires have worn out and I'm going to replace them with the Conti DWS. I have done a lot of research and chose them over the AS/3 mainly for light snow use and ride comfort. I really dont drive super aggressive. My question to you guys is the front tire the side wall looks much smaller in the fender. Can I get a thicker tire in the front without messing anything up and it fitting in the s550? I also want thicker sidewalls to give it more confort i will sacrifice handling for a smoother ride. I don't want the tires to rub and I also am afraid if I get a bigger tire size when it lowers in sport mode they would rub? any advice would be great.

Depends on the weather
I am running 255/40/20 and 275/35/20....no issues...and my car is lowered.

I've had several sets of the conti DWS on different vehicles and they are great for snow but that's about it. I'm running the Michelins AS3's now and they are like nite n day as far as performance and handling. I found it hard to balance those Conti's but they faired well for winter purposes with long tread life, but the ride was a bit spongy and the sidewall too soft.

Why are you running that size tire up front?

Because he likes the tall sidewall. Looks unbalanced to me, but to each their own. Badges likes to do his own thing.

If I was not 4MATIC, I would do the same.

I like the little bit of extra sidewall to keep the smooth ride. I am not sure if it makes a difference with the ABC but one day I'll try the 255/35/20's and see. :-)

Whoh28 those are the exact wheels I got. The forged s63 oem wheels. Looks great. My car has the abc option I didn't even think that would matter with tire sizing. So is 255/40/20 the biggest that will go on the front. Is the speedometer going to be affected? I doubt it would make a difference that would be significant. Thank you for the response.

I just checked the conti dws only comes in 255/35/20 or 255/45/20 not 255/40/20. Would that work or is it too much sidewall?

You can only do 255/35 or 255/40 in the front.

ABC just makes the ride better so you could do 255 35 and still get a good ride I just went with the 255 40

I agree the 255/40/20 in front won't be an issue its actually a secondary option that can be used as per tire rack. I'm running the 255/35/40 Michelin AS-3 tires all around on my 4matic and I've had to replace two tires in the front due to having bubbles caused from minor road hazards (potholes). The 35 profile is great for handling but can get damaged much easier than a 40 profile.

Also note, I generally drive in sport suspension mode which may contribute to the tire damage due to the car feeling the road more. Maybe comfort mode would be easier on the tires.
