Can I run a staggered wheel set up on my 2010 s550 4matic?

Looking to put s63 wheels on my car, just worried about all wheel drive system damage, since the car cams with non staggered wheel set from the factory. Please help.

The question is, does the diameter have to be the same or is there an acceptable variance on the circumference of the tires. I have heard 3% but also 2% and no %.

The rule is under 3%. Mercedes does stagger wheels on some AWD cars from the factory. I was looking at a C450 and was surprised to see wider rears.

The reason to avoid big variances is that the AWD system has speed sensors at each wheel that are watching for a wheel slipping, which the sensor would report as overspeed and the AWD system would compensate for.

When there's a big variation in rolling diameter between front and rear the AWD system sees this as one axle being continuously in an over or under speed state and is continuously compensating. It's built to compensate in short bursts, so when it works constantly it can burn itself out.

On a 221, if you're running 20" and you select the staggered tire sizes for the non 4Matic car you'll be in safe territory.

If you want to play with other sizes, go to www.1010tire.com for their calculator. It'll report variance for you.

I paid 900 bucks for a set of OEM 19" staggered rims, the 20 spoke flavor. Tires were another 1200 bucks for a set of Michelin's. Don't forget lug bolts and potential spacers.

I just sold my set of S63 20's with some minor cosmetic issues for $1k plus shipping. I still have a half set (one front and one rear) freshly reconditioned that are perfect. I'd sell those for $500 plus shipping. You'd need the other two wheels obviously.

Yeah, tough to find the elusive full set. For around $800 a set that wheel is available as a replica.

They look exactly the same down to the AMG stamp on the register. Offset is different by 1mm, otherwise it's hard to tell them apart.

My last set fooled the MB tech, and took zero weights on the balance machine.

Mine are 35mm offset all around, which in my opinion is perfect! so no spacers needed to make them flush.

what's the allure of aftermarket times? Why not just keep them stock?

Nothing! My car came with non staggered 19" amgs and I wanted 20" amgs. I hate buying used rims bc theres always an issue, scratched or bent. So a brand new set of factory reps works for me. Plus the rims themseld run in the 800-1k range so its tuff to beat.

This from the Mercedes purist who plans to repair a wrecked S Class with a rubber mallet.
