I looked, its just a Ziptie. lol

The car does say "Dont forget your key". Is this a standard message with or without the key?

yes they all say don't forget your key. I turned that reminder off on mine by setting the country code to ROW instead of US or Canada.

Ya, but what if you try to start the car and the key is still in the house. Will it still say, "Dont forget your key"?

Also doesn't the car auto-lock if the key isn't present? Because the car was unlocked...

This is a critical question because it will mean the difference between using a forklift, paying for towing and $350 for a new key vs. Not having to.

Could someone please test this for me? I forgot to press on the brake when I was trying to start it today...

If so, I can have him deliver the car to my house right now...

I have always believed it said "don't forget your key" if it sensed the key in the car. I don't think the car auto-locks...mine doesn't. Maybe there is a setting to make it do that though.
You should try stepping on the brake and pushing the button. The key might be somewhere in the car.Would be your lucky day. Key might even be somewhere in the car and not starting cause battery is dead.
I suggest you search the sides of the seats and under the foot mats, glove compartment, visors...everywhere. Would be a great if the key is in the car.

It will say "please do not forget key" as soon as you open the door...whether you have the key on you or not. The only way you can start the car is with the key physically in the car and your foot on the brake.

The only time the car will auto-lock is if you hit the unlock button with the remote, then did not open the door in a certain time frame. 30 seconds comes to mind. You obviously have nothing to worry about here since you don't have a key. I believe the only way you can lock the doors in your cars current condition would be to disconnect the accessory battery in the trunk, which should allow you to manually lock the doors from the inside then close them. Otherwise your car will stay unlocked until you get the new key.

Same thing goes for when you hit the keyless go? Or does it also give a standard signal then aswell?

Dude, you're getting loopy. Go to bed. You don't have a key in your new wrecked car. Forklift it off the truck, get the title, order a new key, purchase some good insurance, then drive it off a cliff.

if you hit the start button one of two things should have happened. If they key was somewhere in the car, ignition would have went on. If no key was present, the dash would say "key not detected"

If you get a hold of previous owner ask if he still has spare key.

I lost an original one time and found previous owner and he mailed the key. Most people when trading or an accident will only bring 1 key.

Worth a shot!

Sorry buddy....it was late and I was probably a little loopy too. All of the above is true, except for the last few words. The last part was probably a bit harsh....at least for now.

A big mallet and a new bumper cover aren't going to fix your car enough to make it eligible for a rebuilt title. The repairs are likely going to need to be inspected by a rep of the DMV in your state before a title will be issued so you can drive it legally on the street and obtain registration. Even though the damage may not seem that bad to your untrained eye, it is likely A LOT worse than you think. I wouldn't be spending any money on anything else like nav disks, bumper covers, or the like until you have somebody qualified tear into it to assess the extent of the damage. Boris and Ivan probably aren't the right guys to be looking at it.

There is also a message on the key reminders that is coming on the display and saying "Key is still in vehicle" , it pops up on and off and goes away sooner than I would take a pic to show it

See post #22. We hit 10 pages pretty quickly. Now I think we're gonna push it past 20 pages....especially if anybody actually reads the front page that the article is posted on and is looking for some true entertainment to brighten their day.

I was able to do something similar with a 2010 C63 (W204), a few years back. My situation was different because the car retained a clean title.

He'll send some hard pipe hittin Russians over there to straighten that right up for you. If Benzs55 is right about his car, then I see less than $1000 damage to your car.

I am sorry, but this has to be the funniest threads I have seen in a while. I don't know which line I like better. The $1,000 repair or the rubber mallet. I have tons of experience in rebuilding salvage cars and I will say is, wait until you R&I everything and see that back panel. It is aluminum. Very brittle once heated or pulled. Requires glue and rivets to replace. Please entertain us and send photos of back side with bumper removed!

All according to plan. I feel pretty stupid right now suggesting earlier this whole project was ill conceived. I stand corrected. Carry on...
