Stretched armrests - covered by Mercedes CPO?

I've read the posts about how to repair the common stretching of armrests in W221. I have the issue on my center console armrest and driver door armrest. Before I take to the repair method, wondering if anyone has had success having this covered as a "trim repair" under the Mercedes CPO warranty. I have plenty of time left on that on my '13 but am about 10k over the original 4/50 bumper to bumper. Thanks in advance. Haven't asked the dealership yet.

This may fall under the category of cosmetic repair, which is only covered under the added year of bumper to bumper warranty you got for buying CPO. If that has expired, then you will be out of luck. Otherwise, you should be covered. If you are, I'd have them fix it. My 2011 had the same problem and while the damp cloth and heat gun remedy worked, I was very concerned about melting or burning something.

Thanks - i extended the warranty 2 years/unlimited miles and paid for it. I'll check to see if it's covered with the dealer. Thank you !

The CPO coverage depends on which CPO policy you have, as mentioned above. I've done armrest and door panels for material stretching on 221s under cpo/elw before, and I've seen the coverage get declined as well.

What I have experienced, and I have purchased 3 CPOs from the local dealer, the extended warranty that they offer and you purchased won't cover things that are considered cosmetic. It will cover anything mechanical that breaks.

Your dealer may or may not offer to make this repair for good will but the extended warranty excludes things like ripped seams in seats, lamps and light bulbs, and lots of other things that fall in to the category of cosmetic items. I had the tether to the fuel cap rot and break on my 2011 S 550 and that was not a covered item. Not a big deal but these kinds of things are doubtful for warranty coverage.

Good luck and if they cover it great. When I buy CPO, I nit pick the heck out of everything while I know it is still covered on either the original warranty or the extra "freeby" year.

Thanks everyone. This is my first experience with CPO with Mercedes. My wife's CLK wasn't CPO nor was my prior E class. I've had other brand CPOs and they never covered trim or cosmetic but I thought it was worth asking the question. My prior E class had the famous wood trim fading from lack of proper UV protectant and that was covered under the original 4 year 50k warranty. On my S class, I paid for a year on top of the freebie CPO year and I'm at 59k even though I'm still in the 4 year period so the base warranty is expired. I think I'll ask the dealer and maybe I'll get lucky and it'll be covered. If not, I'll live with it or try to fixes on this site. Everything else about the car is so well constructed and solid - I just find the rippling unsightly for a $100k car.

Thanks again for the info.

Are you in the CPO period or into the years you purchased?

I have had both the center glove box cover and the driver-side armrest replaced under factory warranty. My dealer told me that even under CPO those items would still be replaced.
