Replacing Mercedes S550 (W221) Front brake Rotors and Pads

I replaced front brake disks and pads 2 years ago, but recently I feel vibration while high speed and uneven brake power while low speed. So I decided to replace them again with different brand.

Nice work! On the caliper bolts you might consider either using new bolts (per the MB procedure) or at least applying new blue thread locker to the old bolts. Not sure if you did that?

i would suggest Akebono Euro pad and Meyle platium rotors.
Meyle are high quality rotors at a reasonable price. German made.
I will not use anything else except akebono pads. Ceramic / dustless. stops great. No more black wheels. I actually change my pad to akebono right when I got my W221 for wheel cleanliness.

The pads are Akebono Euro ceramic, and the rotors are Zimmermann OEM product.

ALWAYS buy your brake parts from fcpeuro.com. Lifetime, free replacement. Which is awesome! And their prices are solid.

With no such thing as a free lunch, how much braking effect do you give up with dustless pads? One of the things I like best about my car are the powerful brakes. I don't want to get it to "acura level" of braking prowess just to keep the dust down.

I ceramic coat my wheels and brake dust rinses right off...

I don't have any braking issues and the variety of cars they are on are: Supercharged Corvette, Range Rover, Jaguar, BMW M and I have seen no decline in performance at all. I have a heavy foot on the gas and the brakes get worked out.

when i had the akebonos on my w221 the car stopped better. Greeat video, may I suggest a large flat metal pan under the brakes to catch all the rust and crap to keep that floor clean!! I got one from auto parts place and I use it under everything. Its prob 3'x4' with a small lip around.

Great video, very helpful. I am putting Akebono ceremic pads and Brembo rotors on all 4 wheels on 2009 S550 4Matic.

So just to be sure on torque specs. Brake caliper bolts are 133 ftlb and wheel bolts are 110 ftlb. correct ? but what about the alignment screw on the rotors. Don't we need torque setting for that ?

Bingo ! What I replaced parts in my video are free replaced from fcpeuro.com. Because I bought all of the brake rotors and pads from them in two years ago.

I used to be the advocate of genuine parts. So when I replaced the brake rotors and pads in two years ago, I ordered all genuine parts... But vibration and squeaking were annoying. Even the fcpeuro.com where I bought them won't sell that at all. I have to try OEM parts and aftermarket brand like Akebono. Actually, after a few hundreds miles driving I feel the braking power is more clear than genuine parts.

Thank you,

Torque specs docs were very helpful.

I didn't find any specs for the pins that connect the rear caliper to the caliper support, though. So I set them to 14Nm.

Video for Rear brakes and Rotors would be nice.

I've found that when replacing the rear rotors, the lower 18mm bolt that connects the brake caliper support to the knuckle is very difficult to remove because swing arm blocks it. And its even more difficult to reinstall when using a torque wrench.

see attached pics.

Looks like a good place for a crowfoot adapter on the torque wrench.

Actually, my schedule is to research how to clean the throttle valve body, due to some vibration while idle for a few years. That's a big project because the M278's throttle body is very deep in engine cabin. I have to disassemble many of parts to reach it.
