I have the telematics updates but you need SDS to apply those as far as I remember (it's been a while). I don't think they run on their own.
Also, at this point...how much do we care about this clock? Does it bother you guys that much? Does anyone even use it? I honestly forget it's even there most of the time
yes I believe that's what everyone thought.... but Polar Bear found how to get to the hidden comand engineering menu we've all used to trigger the fake version of an update disc...without plugging the car in (do it running to keep volts up)

I do think the clock is pretty much useless. Never use it. The only reason for trying to update it, was because of all this success stories I seen on this forum. Besides is a very nice fancy car and it is nice for everything to work properly. Will I stop driving it because of it? that will never happen... Besides I found a different update that got the clock fixed for good. Here it is:
Thanks so much to all of you guys! You made me a fan of this forum. Stay safe and healthy!

Now that’s a fix that will work 100% of the time. I like.
if you want to try the telematics update let me know and I can add you to the file. That will update all systems in the car...then you can retry the clock fix. Maybe that will do something.
I actually do us the clack i my car all the time and it was really bothering me so I am extremely happy that the update worked. Aside from that, I am very nitpicky and want everything to be working properly.
I am the sort of person that would feel embarrassed if/when my car has a squeaky belt or makes any other weird sound and I need to fix it. And the clock being wrong was no different.
So again, I'm extremely grateful for this update and yes, i do actually use the clock in the car, I always use the car clock to see what time it is in any car. It's usually in an easy spot to check quickly while driving.
can anyone doing this update post daylight saving report if it works ?
a UK guy is saying its moved his date to Aug 2020. I wonder if this relates to elmerfud's issues. Did this patch work within a certain time frame and now the word moved on its still muddled... if his behaves next drive and he reports back, I'll update this post
Mine was stuck to winter time before the update and automatically changed itself to summer summer time after doing the update. Don't know if it will go back to winter time in the fall..
ok, in the UK one of the two guys doing this in the last few days believes its been successful. But he did have an issue making a disc with windows - so here's my thoughts on that idea
I don't understand why anyone would hope to burn a disc using windows built in software.... (clunky nasty and often less than 50% success rate in it actually trying to write the files and then a 25% rate the disc is actually usable). Microsoft have repeatedly demonstrated that since circa 2004 they have basically no idea what they are doing.
using the last tool under Disc Image menu, select burn image....
you are not creating the info to put on a disc.... you have that (that's what the ".iso image" has inside),
you can write files to a disc as various stuff
as boring data files (back up groups of random stuff - like a round USB thumb drive)
as a music cd
as a DVD
or in this case.... take an image you have (called an .ISO) and "turn it into a working CD" you want
Hello Polar
for first time thank you to keep us update and second think i try to open the attached link but i can't so can send the update file to me
my mail mo_th_al@yahoo.com thanks allot dear
Thanks guys for your suggestions. The car is 2008 S550 4matic, I am in California, San Francisco area. I'm attaching some screen pics with the details about my software versions. One thing I noticed is that I could get in the engineering mode without pressing the " * " button. If I press the Control Dial to the right and press "seat button" and " mute " in the same time it will go in engineering mode. Just for the record I went into engineering mode and tried to do the update both ways ( with pressing " * " or without pressing it), the outcome was always the same. One other thing I noticed ( not sure if you guys experience same thing ) after I turn off the screen and press " * " and Control Dial to the right, the screen will come back on even without pressing down the Control Dial. The screen comes back on as soon as I push the Control Dial to the right (I am very careful not to press it down). Siliev, I did make several copies of the ISO on two different brands of CD-Rs. I also talked to the local dealer and they did say that the "November 2019 update fix did not work for all the cars" . Not sure why that is. They also said that a new fix was issued in February 2020. Did you guys hear anything about this "February Update" ? So to sum it up I don't have issues entering the engineering mode at all. I also don't have troubles making the disk from the ISO. What appears to me, doing the update it doesn't appear to do any update even if in the end claims the "update was successful" After it starts it never reboots and also it never goes to the directory "Vespucci" as I noticed in the you tube video where the update was successful. See the pics I attache previously. Maybe something about my car that prevents any pdates to take place. Some kind of setting that I'm not aware of which does not allow the update to take place. Any of you are aware of such setting? No doubt this is a great update, it made a lot of people happy and that is great. I guess this is just my poor luck. Anyway thank you guys!!! and stay well and healthy. Here are the pics about the SW and GPS versions
If you guys think of any other detail would be relevant please let me know. Thx and stay well!
You have some 2005 software listed in there, which leads me to believe that the telematics ring as a whole has not been performed.
And regarding having to press the "*" or Favorite button first, it has come to light that on most vehicles that step can actually be omitted.
I believe your update may be failing as the rest of the telematics ring has not been updated to the last official release.
Hi Everyone, I have problem updating my Mercedes S 350 Time and D
ate. I did everything as described above, burned few discs and always got update complete but nothing happened.
Then I was looking at files and realized my Mercedes not listed there. My MB number is 2218703591. Do anyone has any suggestion how to resolve this.
if you were searching inside the software code of the update for that number that's NOT the number you are looking for to see if your unit is supported....
Mercedes love to have multiple numbers to confuse you.... the first is the one it looks for in the code before writing to the unit.
(these are mine)
MB number 2218201426 in a print out ….
not the MB number 2218709287 it shows in that menu !!!
mental but true, the equiv of the one you searched for is not in there...
another person couldn't get the update to work.... Polar bear just replied this weekend saying it looks like his car does NOT have the current software version on the car... update the whole unit before applying the small clock fix (partial) update

Japan use totally different hardware.... always been like this on Japan spec Mercs.
I live near a UK expert who swaps out Merc toys for a living. Over many years they have found it is almost impossible to reverse fit the Europe / USA comand systems to Japan spec cars. So many components and looms need changing the cost is off the planet stupid. Import a rust free car for half price and spend 2 x that to put the radio back to one that works... (its literally 100s of hours labour)
You'll need to discuss fixes with that market as we've never seen the units or the hardware.... I know on the outside it looks the same and some menu have similarity but you get a few million more wires in the back connected to stuff we don't get. There are videos on youtube of models way before this showing firmware updates on some Jap spec cars.... all totally unique
as for BT music streaming …. early Europe / USA 221s (2005 to 2009) can't without additional addons and shows up only in the instrument cluster and operating via steering wheel buttons. The high spec facelift (2010 to 2012) 221s can and did it all correctly via comand screen and menus via the comand knob (or steering wheel buttons), but the unit dies at twice the rate of the earlier cars (and are silly money). The nasty gadget on the other post of course means you can only interact with it by using the phone, and that means it can't be in your pocket and in many countries gets issues with the police, fines and points.
You should change the car or buy the super wide android replacement it will be many thousands less, and they finally made it for RHD a year on (so check last few posts in the link below).... it should have all the functionality you want, but you'll have 10 times the fun wiring it up. It should work.... probably for 14 months if you're lucky, (6 months if we're honest) - the joy a yellow electronics
I decided to give this one more shot over the weekend. I burned a cdr with the laptop I use for DAS. I had previously burned DVD-R and CD-R with both Windows and Linux and had no success with any of them. This time I think I finally figured out why. I had always been getting into the menu and waiting until it asked for the disc before inserting the CD. Again, that failed this time. However, on the second try I put the disc in first... system griped because it was an invalid CD. THEN I got into the menu, tried the update, and it worked. I had the clock set to the right time already (easy to do if you park somewhere with no GPS reception). This let me set the date... not that it really matters. Even the service intervals haven't been wrong since I've owned the car, it just counts days and km since the last service. BUT... now it all works, which is one less little frustration. A big thanks and shout out to @Polar Bear for the fix.
Now, if only someone could keep Distronic/Park Assist from setting off alarms and/or panic braking on the highway every time I get near a newer Ford or some Toyotas... I'd pay for that fix.
