child lock disable on a 2008 S550

Greetings!

I cannot figure out how to disable the child locks on my 2008 S550. If someone is in the back seat, they cannot get out unless the driver's door is unlocked. How do I make it so the rear passenger can get out of the car without the front passengers unlocking their doors first? It use to be that the edge of the back doors had a tab you would move up or down to disable/enable the child locks. My S550 has a hole for the tab but no tab. The window lock button on the driver's door has no effect on the door lock. Anyone have this one figured out?

Thanks!!

Don’t you have the normal door lock pull at the bottom of the door glass on hinge side? On many German cars you need to pull the pin up first to unlock the door. This is not a child lock though.

Yes I do have the pull tab at the glass and pulling up will unlock the rear door. However a simple pull of the rear door handle will not onlock the door and there is no switch to allow this feature. It is like the child lock is perpetually on and cannot be disabled.

But if you pull the pin the door unlocks, right?

This is a special option for US and GB only for electric child lock, you will not find a child lock handle on door lock lack and child lock is automatically when door is locked and it realese only when front door is open or you pull the pin on the rear door for unlock, for my car I adjust this pin very low and children can't pull by themselves then therefore door only unlocks if front door unlock.

My car has the conventional child lock on the door close to the lock like it in most cars is that you can access only when door is open. It has the normal pull pins for the locks too.

You are right Arie! I misunderstood what child lock is. I now understand that child lock is on when you cannot unlock the door either by lifting the inside pin or operating the inside door handle. Thanks for the research and replies!! Upon browsing some of the s550 rear door latch listings on ebay, I saw that 07, 08, 09 and 10 did not have the safety lock tab while 11 and 13 did. Again, I didn't look at all the listings just some.

Looking on the internet, apparently some cars have an override function that when you pull the inside door handle on a locked car it will open the door. On my 2008 s550, when you pull the handle on the front, all* the doors unlock and the front door opens but pulling the inside handle on the rear doors does not unlock the rear door. But if the rear door is locked the rear passenger can still get out by pulling the lock pin up and operating the handle. So assuming that the child safety switch prevents the door from being unlocked from the inside, by either pulling up on the lock pin or operating the inside handle, my S550 does not have child safety lock..

*The front door handle override can be enabled just for the front door or all the doors by pushing the lock and unlock buttons on the key fob for 5 seconds.

I find it very strange that your car would not have child locks on the rear doors. My car has the old fashioned "switch" that you move up or down for the child lock. You mentioned in your earlier post that you have holes in the location of the child lock switch. Wonder if the prior owner removed them somehow...?

I had a 2009 Audi Q7. It had child lock control electronically with buttons in the driver's door amongst the buttons for windows. Mercedes is way behind with this technology too...

There are several door latches listed on ebay that don't have the child lock switch. I saw latches off of 2007 to 2010 that didn't have the switch. 2011 and 2013s do have the switch. Because of this I don't think the previous owner removed them. I believe mercedes didn't put them in the s550 for a period of time.
