Sometimes sellers on eBay are so dishonest

Recently I needed to buy a front fuse driver and Sam module. Well I paid $110.00 for used unit and asked a ton of questions prior to buying the item. One of the questions was that the item was in working condition. Then I asked if the part had any water damage. The seller said no water damage and gave me a 1 year warranty for the part. Well I get it today and as soon as I open the box I can smell smoke.. needless to say I go to open the Sam part and there was so much water damage that it’s impossible to not know the item was damaged by smell and physically looking at the item.

Never had water in it? I opened an eBay return and also reported the seller for trying to be deceiving. Sending the item back tomorrow.

It happens. Guess you'll be using that warranty. Get lots of pics. The nice thing about ebay is sellers want to keep their feedback scores up, so rarely does ebay need to intervene. They'll take care of you.

Well I opened a return item and also like I said reported the seller. I have to wait 7 days after it’s delivered to leave negative feedback. All I want to do is fix my car and actually drive it.. been hitting a rough patch as the lower coolant hose formed a hole in it so I have the car parked waiting for the upper/lower coolant hoses. Going to do a coolant flush and then install brand new coolant. Then install the new used eBay front fuse driver/sam. Hopefully those repairs will give me a functional car.

if ebay was any good they'd not have 2 million adverts for brake pads from the same company or indeed the same ad with 10 different price points

its just mostly designed as another "service" to steal money from the poor

Yah, sellers often lie or fail to disclose, due to just being dishonest or laziness. I just bought a set of 5 spoke wheels I'd been waiting forever to find. I bought the set of though they were chrome and I knew I'd have to strip them. I asked the seller if any were bent--answer was no. I asked the seller tire depth--answer was 7.5mm. Received 1 seriously bent wheel, tires at 4mm, and I later found a small crack on one wheel. I received a partial refund, but geez, I'd never sell like this. And the seller had excellent reviews.

One a side note (posted elsewhere too in the wheel section), can anyone help me with how on earth to get the chrome off? I've tried sandblasting, acid, manual and power sanding...it is just really, really on there. My only tool that takes it off is a high speed dremel tool, but I can't do everything with such a tiny device. Any help will be much appreciated.

I don't ever officially file or "open" complaints or returns. A quick message to the seller with a pic or two has always resolved any issues I've ever had.

Senecat,

I tried that and got no response for hours. That’s why I needed to open a case .. I have been buying and selling on eBay for over 22 years. When I sell I am very very descriptive of the item I am selling. It seems most people on eBay are just the opposite.

Agree with you. I've been buying and selling Ebay since 1999, when buyers and sellers had to send money orders through the mail to pay for things. I try to be as descriptive as possible, and disclose anything I find wrong, and I've never received a negative review (which is somewhat surprising, because there's almost always that one person who just can't be pleased). In my case with the bent wheels, the seller responded once and offered me a lame partial refund, and then went silent. Ebay had to intervene, and offered me a somewhat less lame settlement. All told, this has been my worst transaction in a very long time since the early 2000's when I bought a "perfect" set of Porsche wheels out of Canada that turned out to be ready for the aluminum scrap dealer. I'm finding any used wheels on Ebay to be troublesome. I'll soon give up on my chrome set, and sell off as a disclosed project.

Sorry to hear. This seller basically delayed me being able to drive my car. As of now the car drives but the blower motor controlled by the front sam is faulty in my car which makes driving in 28 degrees not too fun. Along with the fact that not having the defroster working makes another challenge. Hopefully the new seller I bought the front sam from is honest. The fuse driver/front sam was listed from the new seller as being from a car with 52k miles on it. My car has 183k miles so if I can get another 20k miles out of this part that’s great. I truly love my s class and since most parts a very accessible I try and keep it going as much as I can. My wife has 2016 bmw x5 so it’s me that only suffers when my car has issues lol. Thankfully I have 3 more cars that I can use but I always miss driving the s class. I will keep you posted on what happens.
