Sirius XM "Updating"
Am I getting the "run around" or has anyone else experienced a problem?
BTW, AM/FM work great.
TIA!

The Best of Mercedes & AMG
as I was trying to suggest at the last few posts of the other thread - no tech ever updates Merc software at the dealerships - so that update fixing older car was likely never done on the vast majority of them - and it wasn't done for nothing, if that’s not on the car I expect lots of later features don't exist and how can sirius be expected to keep those ancient ones running

thanks

Pre 2008 cars - there was an update (dealer programming - meant to be free - I bet they no longer support) when Sirius and XM merged they made a load of channel packages available upon subscriptions
To make this change, there was a SIRIUS channel lineup change in September 2008 that made the way to launch the “Best of XM ” package in October 2008 when it began offering “SIRIUS Everything + XM” and “SIRIUS Family + XM”. These packages, containing a selection of XM programming, are available at an additional subscription cost to SIRIUS customers.
following labor operations should be used to obtain reimbursement for this software update
to be provided only to customers confirming their intention to subscribe to one of the “Best of XM Packages”.

a) Connect a battery charger
b) Turn engine and electrical consumers OFF
c) Start DAS and follow menu paths: Control units Æ Information and Communication Æ Audio,
video, navigation, and Telematics Æ COMAND Æ Control Unit Adaptations Æ Control Module
Programming….. carry out the steps outlined by DAS (On-line SCN coding should be selected for
the update when possible)
d) After a successful update, the COMAND’s software version will be 29/08

so sirius might be working through a plan of updating stuff - and are turning off elements bit by bit - and it will likely end up leaving fewer channels on the old transmissions, as the main stuff leaps only on to the current tech - people should be making later spec sirius tuners that are compatible - that allow you to swap over to the modern world - the car won't care it will all go down the fibre MOST and show up and play
European DAB - digital radio transmissions (we never had Sat radio) started off with a few terrible reception channels - in Feb 2016 Germany just stopped broadcasting and in came a totally new non backwards compatible later DAB+ transmission standard...whereas the UK left the old DAB running alongside DAB+ but with far fewer channels left operating on the old one...

the pre model year 2010 cars (built before mid Aug 2009), have a NTG3.0 comand and have no USB capability - the aftermarket tuner in post #5 is for newer cars and connects via USB
the GM tuner looks more interesting from these guys

Ok did a little more research and found another customer said that our cars/satellite radios can only hold a max of 140 channels. When Sirius adds more channels then that it causes the issue.
Possible solution: We have to talk to a head tech from Sirius to place our radios in a "protected tier" which will only allow a max of 140 stations. Hopefully that will remedy the problem.
Conclusion: I'm going to call customer service tomorrow to see if they know of this fix and possibly get them to do it.
See below from another thread in 2014.
SiriusXM has established a process where they add the ESN of the affected vehicle to a "protected tier" they have established for these MB vehicles in their system. It prevents the radio from seeing the additional channels and thus solves the problem. Regional Manager names for direct customer interaction (they can fill you in on more detail should you need it).

Can you help me? I really enjoy Sirius XM while driving but can't tolerate the constant in/out signal.Thank you
