Sirius XM "Updating"

For about a week my SiriusXM radio drops out, get the error message "Stations Updating" with the spinning timer icon. After no audio the reception will return only to get the message and lose reception again. After speaking to tier 1,2 Sirius technicians to no avail, I was told there was a problem with older MB receivers and they were working on a fix.
Am I getting the "run around" or has anyone else experienced a problem?
BTW, AM/FM work great.
TIA!

Did the SiriusXM techs walk you through a receiver refresh sync?

Not sure what vintage your receiver is. Do you get channels in the 300 range? You can buy a replacement OEM receiver for $350. https://www.xm-radio-satellite.com/p...tory-radio-kit

well if you study the link - quite a few seemed to describe a similar issue you both have - which turned out to by sirius guys playing either intentionally, or through today’s utter incompetence...

as I was trying to suggest at the last few posts of the other thread - no tech ever updates Merc software at the dealerships - so that update fixing older car was likely never done on the vast majority of them - and it wasn't done for nothing, if that’s not on the car I expect lots of later features don't exist and how can sirius be expected to keep those ancient ones running

sirius

I have 2006 CLS 500, which I purchased new. Satellite radio has worked on and off pretty well forever. Until about a week ago it has been Acquiring Satellite (spinning circle). Sirius support has tried to refresh signal, to no avail. They stopped follow up calls now. I'm at a loss as to what or where to turn. Any suggestions would be welcome and appreciated. By the way, I think my car is one of those with a perpetual license.

thanks

you can lead a horse to water but a pencil must be lead - I suggest all that have issues must know three things the siruis module is a stand-alone tuner totally separate to all other elements of the comand set up.. the update below mattered and might have been applied - but more likely never was (how else is is meant to cope) and sirius modules like to die (but then everything stops on the comand)

date: May 12, 2009
S-B-82.60/640a

Pre 2008 cars - there was an update (dealer programming - meant to be free - I bet they no longer support) when Sirius and XM merged they made a load of channel packages available upon subscriptions

To make this change, there was a SIRIUS channel lineup change in September 2008 that made the way to launch the “Best of XM ” package in October 2008 when it began offering “SIRIUS Everything + XM” and “SIRIUS Family + XM”. These packages, containing a selection of XM programming, are available at an additional subscription cost to SIRIUS customers.

following labor operations should be used to obtain reimbursement for this software update
to be provided only to customers confirming their intention to subscribe to one of the “Best of XM Packages”.
This information has been generated on May 12, 2009. Please refer to Netstar Æ Star TekInfo Æ Star Time
for the most current labor time allowance.

Operation: Perform Sirius Update (including short test and battery charger-connect) for Best of XM

Update Procedure, Models 216/221 Systems

Requirements: DAS 10/08 and all latest patches & SD Telematics Software CD 221 827 70 59 ES2:0001
a) Connect a battery charger
b) Turn engine and electrical consumers OFF
c) Start DAS and follow menu paths: Control units Æ Information and Communication Æ Audio,
video, navigation, and Telematics Æ COMAND Æ Control Unit Adaptations Æ Control Module
Programming….. carry out the steps outlined by DAS (On-line SCN coding should be selected for
the update when possible)
d) After a successful update, the COMAND’s software version will be 29/08

SiriusXM pissed off a lot of subscribers a couple years ago moving some popular channels such as Deep Tracks up to its expanded spectrum (channels numbered in the 300's). Newer vehicle receivers cover this spectrum but older ones don't. I have a couple home based receivers that I replaced so I could still get the channels shifted into the 300's. I got some on sale at Crutchfield, which lessened the hurt, but SiriusXM wanted to charge me setup fees to transfer my subscriptions between old and new receivers. They waved the fees when I told them where they could put their satellites.

So is there a solution? Anything we can and should do to get the Sirius radio working again?

read the post directly above yours - quite likely in 20 years technology moved on and newer different capability tuners find later transmission formats that squash data better - providing scope for many more channels

so sirius might be working through a plan of updating stuff - and are turning off elements bit by bit - and it will likely end up leaving fewer channels on the old transmissions, as the main stuff leaps only on to the current tech - people should be making later spec sirius tuners that are compatible - that allow you to swap over to the modern world - the car won't care it will all go down the fibre MOST and show up and play

European DAB - digital radio transmissions (we never had Sat radio) started off with a few terrible reception channels - in Feb 2016 Germany just stopped broadcasting and in came a totally new non backwards compatible later DAB+ transmission standard...whereas the UK left the old DAB running alongside DAB+ but with far fewer channels left operating on the old one...

.

Buy a new receiver. Call first and make sure it will be plug & play in your car's audio system (see post #5 above).

the pre model year 2010 cars (built before mid Aug 2009), have a NTG3.0 comand and have no USB capability - the aftermarket tuner in post #5 is for newer cars and connects via USB

the GM tuner looks more interesting from these guys

Ok did a little more research and found another customer said that our cars/satellite radios can only hold a max of 140 channels. When Sirius adds more channels then that it causes the issue.
Possible solution: We have to talk to a head tech from Sirius to place our radios in a "protected tier" which will only allow a max of 140 stations. Hopefully that will remedy the problem.
Conclusion: I'm going to call customer service tomorrow to see if they know of this fix and possibly get them to do it.

See below from another thread in 2014.

SiriusXM has established a process where they add the ESN of the affected vehicle to a "protected tier" they have established for these MB vehicles in their system. It prevents the radio from seeing the additional channels and thus solves the problem. Regional Manager names for direct customer interaction (they can fill you in on more detail should you need it).

Working!

I sent an email to one of the U. S. tecks (below), that evening the Sirius receiver was working perfectly.
Andy, I am having problems with my Sirius XM receiver dropping audio and "updating" every few seconds. Talked to the phone techs, reset several times to no avail.
Can you help me? I really enjoy Sirius XM while driving but can't tolerate the constant in/out signal.Thank you
Cautiously optimistic!!! Thanks CTW!

Hey, by any chance did this resolve your SiriusXM audio cutting in and out and ultimately the "acquiring signal" that would follow and occur even more frequently?
