isn't all the power the S65 delivers too much torque for 2 wheels to deliver to the pavement? I'd imagine 4Matic would make it accelerate better (among other things)

seeing as how all amgs are becoming 4matic, I dont see why the 65 would be left out

I think it was already released months ago, what is not stated as far as I know is the lease/finance rates.

Really? Because all I've seen are estimated prices ranging from $95,000 to $99,000 for the base model.

4000 either way would make no difference for any S-class owner. Pricing for options are on this forum, do a search and it should come up.

I don't disagree that $4K is going to make any difference. Just saying that the MSRP for the car hadn't been released since I hadn't seen it around.

I assumed that Kratos had been asking about the car itself since the dealer guides showing pricing for all the options are readily available, as you pointed out.

Yes, I was asking about the car itself. Kind of strange that the car will be here next month and every dealer I call tells me "they have no clue" on the pricing. Are they keeping us in the dark to help U.S. 2013 models to sell up to the last minute?

Having been away for a while I was back into this forum to see what the buzz is like on the new S.

I have a moderately optioned 2014 S550 4matic on order. Moderately optioned, it will still be higher in price than the fully optioned W221 that I got in 2009.

My personal opinion: The car looks great on the outside. Not revolutionary but is definitely an S. On the inside it is miles above it's predecessor. It is nice to have all available options on the US order guide. 4 grades of leather, 3 grades of rear seats etc are all very nice in terms of meeting specific customer needs.

IMHO this car is playing on a level that is higher than the previous model.

As for the negatives that have been addressed. This car does lack the upcoming 9G tranny. It is an Achilles heel that will be milked by those who want to criticize this car. It is a solid argument. However, I can find something wrong with every car that is out there and wait for something else while losing time. I am certain that in due time as the 2015 model is out, there will be people who will say that they would rather wait for the facelift.

At 100K base, if you are really concerned about value/depreciation this is not the segment of car you should be shopping for. From what I see pre order demand has been strong for a car that will have an average sticker price well above fully optioned versions of 750Li's & A8L's...... & even a Range Rover Supercharged which I think falls into the same shopping list.

Whyyyyyyyy didn't you wait for 2015... I mean I guess you have the answer above but I'd kill for a new generation transmission.

While I've seen several reviews of the S saying that the new transmission would come out for the 2015 model, the only one they've properly announced it for in the US is the 2015 CLS model.

Anyways, after reading the reviews about how well the current transmission performs, I just threw in the towel and went for it.

Last time around, I did wait for the second year as a ton of options like distronic/rear seat package/Nightvision were delayed at launch. There are somethings that are delayed at launch this time around. However, the 4-matic models are not effected due to the later launch date.

Again, if I feel that the 9spd is a game changer, I will trade the 2014 S for a 2015.

If I have to speculate, the 9speed will debut in the CLS facelift & the S class Coupe. Trickling down to the S and other models in 2016.

Remember the jump to twin turbos in the last S? MB waited a full model year after facelifting the S to give it the TT engine. Even though the engine was in the CL for a full year before the S got it. By the time the last S got the TT it was too long in the tooth in all other areas. My point being, speculating sometimes = lost time & the loss of the novelty factor. There is always something better on the horizon. Come MY16 there will be a new 7 series ready to debut. Then those who waited for the 9speed can start waiting for that to come out.

You love it or hate it. Buy it or not. Using an excuse as a future speculative change is cold feet or the inability to purchase. Or extreme patience which is extremely unique.

+100. Cars are becoming like smartphones in a way, if you wait for the perfect one, it will be out of vogue quick. Buy it, enjoy it and life and keep going. It is likely not the car you are going to die owning, anyway.

There is zero logic in trading a 14 for a 15 just for the 9 speed, mid cycle change I can understand.

It would be nice to have the 9G. But I don't see it as deal breaker for anyone besides car fanatics who know every detail about the auto world.

A dealer here in the U.S. (Houston, TX) just quoted me 96,000 base msrp, 6,650 for sports package plus, 950 destination charge, and a guesstimate on the exclusive nappa (5K-7K) since her dealer sheet said TBD on that. Total comes out to be approximately $109-$110K for me to order it.

The base price may be off by a couple thousand. But that is a good estimate. This car hardly has anything on it. Sport pkg +1 & higher grade leather and trim on the inside.

No premium 1, no enhancements to the back seat, no driver assistance. So, even with 12K+ in options this car is going to be one of the most bare bones S class on the market.
