I need pads and Rotors are not grooved too bad. Must I replace rotors?

I need pads and Rotors are not grooved too bad. Must I replace rotors?
Dealer recommends new rotors when changing pads but I need to know if there is a real good reason or is it just their policy. I have done it in past and had no problems. seems when the new pads wear in to fit the groves in the old rotors there will actually be more contact surface.

I plan on doing both pads and rotors. I will be using different pads for less dust.

Rotors are cheap, a few hundred bucks for a factory pair. Why not just swap em out. New pads do actually wear faster on a grooved or damaged rotor and if the rotor is not true the subtle wobble can cause premature parts wear. I have always done the pads and rotors as a set.

I had an independent shop replace pads but not rotors on my S221, and felt there were zero issues. I think some dealers insist on doing rotors at the same time as a revenue/profit booster. There should be enough thickness left in the rotor at this point; maybe there wouldn't be for a third set of pads, though.

Uhhh, no!~ They are about $800 each. To replace rotors and pads would be around $4500. I don't find that cheap. But of course I'm dealing with an AMG. I cannot understand why just because it belongs on an AMG that the cost of a rotor goes up from $200 to $1200!!!! Makes no sense at all.

Mine are not ceramic but I did find on the web total replacements for the S63 for under $1300 (all four). I won't need them within the next 2 years but good to know I can find them without getting ripped off.

I changed the rear pads on the 16 Maybach recently. 60,000 miles on the car and the rotors were WELL WITHIN tolerances of wear so I reused them. Car works great

I too just had Mercedes install new rear brake pads. However, I purchased new pads from Autoanything that were very reasonably priced, and were a combination of carbon and ceramic. These I heard are sometimes used in the AMG models. They worked perfectly ....no noise. The dealer of course simply warns that third party pads might be problematic and noisy. And BTW, NO DUST. The Mfg. is POWERSTOP

Read through a lot of the comments - and clicked most linked part suppliers, simply cannot find the rotors for less than $1200 per corner. Dealer mentioned they automatically replace rotors with brake job - 41k miles, and they do not measure rotors to see if pads only is an option. Looking for rotors that will work for this car any advice? Took to a independent and they are quoting similar price to dealer - seems rotors for this car are hard to get and priced sky high. Also, this is the non ceramic system. Thank you in advance for suggestions.

Rotors have a minimum thickness usable. If they are not warped and thicker than the minimum you can reuse them. Minimum thickness is posted on side of rotor.
when I changed the pads on my Maybach I simply scuffed the rotors (local shop would not turn due to dimple holes in rotor can break their cutting head) and put the new pads on. Piece of cake and very easy for this girl to do. Thinking it took less than 1.5 hrs to do the rear. Only thing is with the rear you have to set the parking brake into pad change position. You can do that accessing assyst through steering wheels and screen in front of steering wheel.

My dealer service advisor said you can normally get 2 sets of pads out of 1 rotor. IE, first brake job should be ok with just replacing pads if rotor isn’t damaged warped etc. This is on S550 w standard brakes
