help please...error message: merecedes me connect

I'm getting this message every time I start my car. It's been happening for several weeks. My service manager tells me it's an issue with mbrace, not my car. I do not subscribe to mbrace.

Does anyone else have this problem?

Do you park in a garage or very close to a building? or outdoors? If the GPS signal is blocked to the hermes module it will show an error code for this. Your dealer should have ran a short test for you.. there should be stored faults for this.

I get this message everywhere, whenever I start the car. I brought it the dealer yesterday, he looked at it and just told me it was not my car, but an issue they are apparently having with mbrace. But this has been happening for weeks...

Mercedes Me Connect is not mbrace. It is a completely different service. Yes, it was down for a short time on 11/25 and 11/26. If you are still having problems outside of this date window then the services were not properly activated. In your purchase paperwork there is a web site to go to to check that your service is properly initialized. Or press the Me button in you car and ask for help.

Unhappy Mercedes Me Application is Down

Application is offline because their IT department has issues and lacks world class availability

An additional thought. Did you go to https://myvehicle.att.com/#/login to create an account with AT&T to access your car? This step is not often mentioned during the initialization process.

My 2018 S class used Verizon for in-car services. My 2020 S class uses AT&T for in-car services. Your personal phone is not used for web browsing, weather, GPS, etc.

I notice that calls placed inside my car are slower and more difficult to connect, compared to using my phone outside my car.

Is this because I am connecting through the car's slower 3G connection?

If so, then I should not pair my phone to that slower system...

Way it was explained to me:

2019 and newer uses Merceded "me" and no problem with the system and other than concierge is no cost for 3 yrs

Older than 2019 uses MBRACE (different provider to MB than the newer "me" and presently has issues), also is and always was a cost to subscribe after 6 mo free trial

I have a 2018 SL550 that uses MBRACE and has a different application icon than the application for my new 2020 E350 that uses "me" (so 2 apps one for MBRACE the other for "me"

Your personal phone does not connect to the on-board Mercedes system, they are entirely separate. You may be getting poor service on your personal phone because of the sun-block coating on the windows. However, some personal phones can utilize the built-in external antenna (located above the rear window on the roof, looks like a shark fin). It can be used by plugging the phone into the right-side USB port in the center arm rest; this is the same port for Apple Carplay. Not all phones can access the external antenna though; if your phone can access the NFC system (see the stylized N inside the front center armrest) then it likely can access the external antenna.

This is true in the US but in Europe a person’s personal phone is used for data connections. When I rented a 2017 S63 AMG in the summer of 2017 I used my US cell phone as a data connection.

so I may have finally found the cause of the error message....

MB is telling me it's due to the tracking device my insurance (State Auto) had me install in the OBD port to qualify for their premium discount

I guess I will leave it connected, at least for now

This bypasses the error message if you want to download map updates to a USB stick from a PC/Mac web browser so that you can manually update.
