Speedometer, why are the speed marks at 35 and 55 red?
Fun ethics on the web, I have the same marks on my 2016
hi all, 2016 S550. Speedometer has the speed indicators red at 35 and 55, any idea why, or what it represents? Thanks!

I got the Q03 package on my MB rather than the 'full' P03. Is the speed range programable on the digital speedometers? It has always been a frustration to me that most of my driving speeds are smooshed into a tiny range of the speedometer, to accommodate the range from 80-160 MPH where almost no driving is done. One might think a programmable digital speedometer could be made more functional and give the usable range back.
Since I have HUD, I almost never look at the drivers panel anymore and I can see the speed (and current speed limit) so easily. Love HUD.

Those are historical speed limit reminders. Useless on a computer display unless dynamically adjusted to current speed limit. These markings have been around speedos for decades. In the US it was set to 35 and 55. In Germany for example it was 30, 50 Km/H (common city speed limits)...

Thnaks, so we have 2”votes”for traditional speed limit markings, and one for fuel efficiency. How sure are the Responders? I truly have no idea, though the efficiency makes sense to me.
thanks all!

Doing some more web research, I think it IS speed limit related. I’ll double check but I don’t think my bummer has it. I think the 35corresponds to s German speed limit, and 55is for the U.S. former national 55 mph l8mit repealed I think in 1981, something like that.

I am certain in case that was a question, including the designated markers descriptions.
This wasn’t MB only in the US but perhaps not all European brands used it

Mine is
35 and 55 mph
Change the cluster to KM and it's at 30 and 50 KMH (19 and 31 mph)
Could be an attempt the put speed limit markings
The marks are physically in different places on the "gauge"
