Yeah, it's fine. They kept the spoiler at the dealership. I have it all in writing.

If you say so. The lease has nothing to do with the dealer...

It is in fact an unbelievable thread. I'll admit, I'm tuned in on a tabloid level at this point. Entertainment.

A gaggle of MB's
1. Rear Spoiler for W222 is not removable without repaint of the rear trunk

2. No the W22 rear spoiler in not held by 3M double-sided foam tape - I "think" W222 is a Henkel/Germany adhesive very-thin/very-permanent "tape". This newer style adhesive has not been trouble free - frankly this "much thinner" double sided adhesive - although much/much stronger - has had W222 customer new car warranty issues that have lead to cases where trunk-repaint/new-spoiler has had to be the correct warranty solution - and replacement is corrected to a newer style thinner-but-not-as-thin 3M tape for the replacement job as the Henkel is applied/positioned/affixed in the factory by robot/not manually.

3. Once spoiler is pulled off - that original spoiler is unusable - and yes trunk needs repaint

4. Any competent/experienced body shop can repaint - you are best served by a "MB Certified Collision Center" if available in your area - every decent dealer has a well experienced body shop on tap - do a search on "Mercedes Certified Collision Center" for more details on what assurance that level of certification brings to bear - please note for "Magno" - there is a additional level of training and added Certification that a Certified Shop has to meet for Magno Certification.

5. Yes - positioning the new rear badges requires (a) clear photo of original badges/original position (2) good eye and experience - as the badge letters/#'s are "proportionally spaced" and not simple linear spacing as laid down on the backing sheet for the fresh badges - again, any competant/experienced shop knows this - yes the badges are held by a more conventional type double sided tape

Based on your information if correct, this may not turn out good. Simply based on the direction this is going.

Point in case. Buy the car you actually want. This can be accomplished by most on this forum with little to no effort.

Wolfman,

I've been following this thread and a few others of the OP trying to find a S560 without a spoiler from the beginning... seems they where very hard to find.... so he got one with the spoiler and since it wasn't bolted on and just stuck on with double sided tape or so most of us thought..., figured how hard can it be to just remove it...

Turns out it's a potential nightmare... most of us didn't see this coming, including me.

I would just trade it in and get the car you want. Sounds like this car is a total loss and will cause heart ache and anxiety Everytime you see it, let alone drive it.

Understood. I suppose it could have helped to post a thread about a potential spoiler removal which has now been answered.

My point was that the OP was fixated on working with a very reluctant dealer with already lost goodwill rather than looking for buying the desired car at a different dealer.
I can confirm several cars meeting the OP’s desires were available elsewhere.

In the end when looking for the lowest price on a car rather than ordering one custom, you might not get Exactly what you want.
After all this drama I can’t help for not feeling sorry. There was a lot of self created hassle

Got the car back today. As I'd feared, basically everything about it EXCEPT the blue area is now a problem. The biggest issue is the paint, which absolutely 100% does not look factory. It almost has a porous look compared to the rest of the car. Also, I wish I could say the badges were exactly as they were, but they're not. Furthermore, it looks as though somebody tried hacking the letters off with a steak knife.

But hey, the blue is gone right? Now I get to drive around for four years in a $125k car that looks like it's made of Frankenstein parts. Awesome.

Take a look at the attached pics. I must say, it's pretty hard to believe Mercedes Benz is standing behind this shoddy work. The paint alone is absolutely unacceptable. How hard is it to match BLACK GLOSSY PAINT? This looks matte almost, it's so off.

I refuse to believe there are no more options here.

Absolutely Unacceptable.

1) Grab the Service Manager and rub his nose in it like a puppy who poops on the carpet. At this point i think yelling is appropriate,

2) Tell him you will park this car out front and show every customer coming in the door, if this doesn't get resolved to look like factory.

3) Explain to Service Manager. If you couldn't do this to factory spec you should have said no. But you didn't so my expectations are you fix it to factory spec or I get to protest out front.

4) go look in the lot for another black S560 and tell him you want the trunk swapped. Today. As in right know, I'm not leaving till you do. If this repair is acceptable to him then there should no problem with him having this trunk lid on another car.

Being nice is over.

if the new lid has a spoiler just take it

I cant really tell the paint issue but the marks below the letters are definitely bad. My 4matic was falling off and when they replaced it, I couldn't even tell. The letters just come off and the replacement comes on a template, not sure how they managed to screw yours up? Refresh my memory, was this a lease or purchase?

That is, indeed, a lousy job. I would immediately ask to meet with the dealership GM and have him look at it. If you do not get satisfaction from him, I would send these photos to MBUSA and open a case. Painting black in a piece of cake. The trunk lid should look just as if it was factory painted.

I am not surprised. Now it's over.... like we said before, there was literally no solution but to put the spoiler back. Now all solutions all over if YOU REALLY WANT FACTORY AND ONLY FACTOR SPEC AND PAINT.
Now the entire factory paint is gone...... sorry to say, but this what happens when you take words from service managers, you should never ever take such risk. you sew them you can do whatever, but paint is gone..... you can get a better paint if you take it somewhere else for sure..... but not factory paint just saying
Also want to say (and don't take me wrong) but I have hard time believing that this was done at an actual dealer. Am not saying you are lying, but r u sure you were dealing with Mercedes Benz? can you share a copy of the service sheet?
After all, man, just go and spray it at a good body shop with excellent reputation and deal with the damn thing as a sprayed non-factory paint... it's a car after all, whether you like it or not, your factory paint is gone forever and that's the fact than you can never change now, even if you sew them you can get money back but never the factory paint (unless u travel back in time!!!!!) I would NEVER paint the entire thing, i even had a scratch one day and refused to paint the entire hood and decided to only work 1 inch around that spot cause I'd rather live with 1-inch non-factory paint than an entire hood ESPECIALLY WITH METALLIC OR GLOSSY PAINT!!!! never ever paint it unless u have an accident.

Told you it would snow ball!!

First let's see the invoice form a M Benz dealer that did this work. I have to say I have seen it all in the collision industry but that is not work from a Mercedes dealership and if it is there is a huge issue.

This seams rather easy to fix but lets go through it anyway.

Contact your insurance co and ask for an approved dealership or shop. Explain you are not putting in a claim but need a reputable shop.

Bring the car there and pay the $600 or so to have the lid resprayed and emblems reinstalled and your back on track.

Post your spoiler for sale for about $200 and recoup 30% of your outlay.

Sorry but without seeing proof an actual dealer did this I will not comment again. Because if it is a dealers shop it would be corrected in 10 minutes asking to speak to a manager in either the sales or collision shop.

Good luck !
