2015 S550 sitting for 10 months - would you buy it?

Would you guys buy a car that has been sitting at the dealer for 10 months and hasn’t really been driven or moved around?

Do you guys foresee any problems?

Sounds like a car with a story. 10 months on a car lot is an eternity. Better be a verifiable valid reason or I would walk.

The story is they won’t lower the price

They went from $58,888 to $51,888

its a 2015 S550 with 26k miles

Sat on the lot for 10 months and the guy says they won’t reduce it anymore cause they already reduced it $7,000

You can get CPO 2016 for that price

s550 Diamond white amg pano
For the right car and right price of course. I had my eye on a 15 cpo s class that my dealer had for almost a year. It was 10k to high but was white/blk and amg. I went to see it and car was stunning. I offered 5k over what the mkt was at the time and they wouldnt take it. Wound up reducing it to less than I offered months later and it sold.

2019 S63 4Matic+, 2018 E400 Cabrio, wardens car.
Dealers are idiotic this way. They will sit on overpriced inventory adding insult to injury as the value drops and they lose even more money. The smart ones have a cadence of price drops until the car sells as they understand that cars are perpetually declining in value. There is either a bad story with the car or you have a moronic GM or owner that thinks they are holding an appreciating asset. I have been watching Range Rover pricing on used models in my area and we have a local dealer that likes to tack on around 10K to the real value of all of his cars and they sit forever, he has two lots that he shifts the inventory back and forth on to make it look like they are new inventory. I typically walk in with national pricing examples and go right to the GM and make them an offer a grand or so above the national average for the car I want. I guarantee you that dealer did not pay above typical trade in or maybe even wholesale when they purchased the car. I hate car dealers almost as much as I hate Comcast.

This is why car buying is so lucrative especially in the U.S. We make emotional buying decisions that go against what we KNOW to be true because when you WANT something the FACTS don't have a chance against our FEELINGS!

For instance, there is a dealer in Mesa, AZ with an original sticker $110,265 S550 RWD in Palladium Silver and they are asking $44,950 and my bet is you can buy it for closer to $43,000. On Manheim it’s condition score is 4.5 out of 5. It has 31,395 miles on it with complete service history at MB Dealerships.

Dealers do what they perceive to be in their own best interests. They are aware of supply and demand and make pricing decisions accordingly.

At my local dealership-
- a 2016 GLE63s was on their lot for most of one year, they sold it, it returned, then they sold it again. Selling price was about at the market.

- a 2018 C63s cab is now at the same dealer, punched by the dealer so no previous retail owner but strictly speaking not a new car. Ridiculously high price but it has been lowered twice over the past year. They are on the high side of the market price. The car is just about 2 years old now.

A consumer’s view of slow moving inventory is likely different from the view of a professional market participant, in other words, a dealer’s view.

my new 2018 gle63s sat in the dealer showroom for a yr... i got it at a huge discount... they had a few 2019's same specs so it was never gonna move... just bought it last month...
back to that 2015 unless it has every option or something specifc to make it special seems like a pass...
