2020 S560 Vs 2018 S560

Hi everyone,

I just picked up my custom ordered 2020 S560 last week after returning my 2018 S560. The MSRP is 134K and came with lots of options such as MBC, Night Vision Assist, HUD, etc. Figured to write some comparisons since they are two years apart.
First of all, I believe that the build quality in my 2020 model is better than in 2018. especially the interior. The bottoms don't squick, and the leather on door panel is perfectly fit ( had theses issue with the previous S560!). Even though the tires are the same (Goodyear RFT), there is less road noise compared to the first days of picking up my 2018. The car rides awsome with MBC and man! I can express enough how happy I am when I put the car to the curve function while driving in Santa Monica, twisty roads! Day and night difference! The only complaint I have is the engine sound. For some reason, the engine on this 2020 model is louder than my previous S class, and you can hear more noise inside the cabin! Not sure what happened between these two years! A friend told me it might be a new software! I will post some pictures in a few days. Let me know if you have noticed the same difference in engine sound compared to the previous models. Other than that, So happy with the car and so glad I could be able to pick up the 2020 model. Nobody knows what will happen to the W223!

So it’s funny. I picked up my 2020 S560 10 days ago. I had a 2017 S550. Two big concerns I have is the cabin noise difference which is noticeable and the engine noise. For me, at highway speeds over 50mph, there’s a high pitch sound when I accelerate. I can literally adjust it by tapping the gas pedal which tells me it’s the engine and not the tires. Going to be wait until 1000 miles to see if it goes away. Currently at 600.

I’m positive they changed some isolation materials on 2020. Not sure if it will get better after 1000K. The stock engines don’t have break in period as I know.

Have you driven other 2020's to confirm that it is the model year and not unique to your car?

Well, Another forum member just confirmed the same issue. I drove two 2020's S class last week. The engine sound was less but all those cars were produced in 2019 as the 2020 model.

Something that just occurred to me from your other thread. I wonder if the difference is the MBC given that is a hydraulic system with a modified hydraulic pump vs your previous car with the airmatic and associated air compressor.

I have a Jan 2020 build car. At least inside the drivers door card it reads 1/20. The dealership agrees the humming noise under the car between 40 and 60mph isn’t normal. But they don’t know what it is. Going to run a sound diagnostic next week to send to Mercedes. Praying it’s nothing major.

That’s what I was thinking. Is this normal? Any bulletins out for it that you know of? I really don’t want them taking the car apart and going down a blind road.

I drove it today in sport mode for the first time and noticed the car down shifts very hard when stopping and while the car is in 1st gear and I put it in park. I can noticeably feel the car go into park.

only has 685 miles on it.

I had the same issue with my 2018 S560. A humming noise between 40 and 60 miles. The dealer duplicated the problem and stated that the noise comes from the rear differential. The car was in the shop for 3 weeks to get the new part. After putting a new differential( I believe it was refurbished ), the noise got worse. I insisted the dealer to put my previous part back and they did. A coupe of hundred miles after, I switched the tires to Michelin 4S and believe it or not the noise was gone!

It's been my experience that differential whine will tend to be sensitive to load. With it tending to make the most noise lightly loaded (that i what I seem to recall).
