Navigation Route Guidance

I have a '16 S Class coupe and am trying to turn off the voice guidance. I don't know how I turned it on but it is providing voice guidance for a 2500 mile trip (yikes). Is there an easy way to cancel it?

Not sure if this pertains to your model or not….but on our 2020 it does..

Voice command: Guidance instructions on \ Guidance instructions off
Switches the route guidance voice output on/off

i am not sure for your vehicle…
i looked at the manual…later vehicles it appears its just a voice command….

perhaps someone else can chime in…..the only other thing i can think about is while the prompt is audible, lower the volume when the driving prompts are being talked…

OP, the answer to this is in your owner's manual. If you lost the hardcopy or your dog ate it, it's available online. Page 111 in the COMAND manual: https://www.mbusa.com/content/dam/mb...ass_COMAND.pdf

I tried all MB instructions and that didn't work. Then I just deleted all destinations and that seemed to solve the problem. We'll see the next time I take the car out. All destinations were from prior owner in CA. I'm in FL.

Ok, maybe your problem description wasn't clear. However, when buying a used car it's always a good idea to perform a factory reset of the Infotainment system to get everything out from the previous owner and start fresh. Page 59 if you need the steps.

Deleting the prior owners destinations solved the problem. Of interest, though, is that l found several threads where people were/are confused as how to turn off the current route guidance. I know I tried what my MB's manual instructed it didn't work nor did the instructions provided in the car's system. It made reference to a menu that didn't exist.

The solution I read in several posts was to just lower (mute) the voice giving the guidance. That of course doesn't solve thew problem. Anyway, to me the simplest solution is to delete the current destination for which guidance is being provided.

I do have a newer system, but I mostly interact with the navigation using voice commands. To stop the current route guidance I just press the voice control button on the steering wheel and say "cancel route guidance".

Thanks! And you know what, that's exactly what my manual instructed (the one provided in the car's nav system) but when you try it, it doesn't work. Actually, "cancel route guidance" is not even an option on the menu that pops up. My MB is a '16 S coupe but I guess the instructions are for a later edition MB. Anyway, I'm thankful I got it resolved as that guidance telling you to u-turn every minute or so can really get irritating. And remember, I'm in FL and the guidance was taking me to CA. (YIKES). Again, thanks for your input.

I remember hearing "Turn left onto I40 and driver for 863 miles".........

But while the navigation is talking, you can hit the "down volume" button to reduce its audibility.

For what it's worth the menu doesn't show all the possible commands. It's just a sample set. The Linguatronic system has many voice commands and even understands some natural variations of the same command. Just try it next time. The following thread has a list of commands. It's not the latest as it dates back to 2004, but that gives you an idea.

Actually I did try the voice command and it would not accept "cancel route guidance". I tried it several times. Perhaps my friend just doesn't like the way I speak...

There are alternate commands such as Exit Route Guidance in that list that you can try, but also your generation system has an individualization function to train the voice recognition to your voice and pronunciation. Later systems don't require that anymore. If the previous owner did the individualization, then it might not understand you, which goes back to my earlier suggestion that you really wanna do a factory reset and start fresh and then individualize the voice recognition to yourself. You'll find it under the Voice Control System settings.
