New owner with questions and pictues!
Hello all,
I recently purchased a 2015 S550 4M and it is such a wonderful car. I have had an E63 (W211) before but never an S-class. I wish I had bought one years ago and I am still a young man (35)! It does need a new set of tires and I see that Michelin just released a Pilot All Season 4 in my size... coming soon! I have a few quick questions if you all would humor me:
1. Sunshade for the front windshield - any recommendations?
2. Window tint - debating black or "mirror tint".. thoughts? I will not be going very dark (likely 20-35%). I only entertain "mirror tint' because it keeps that OE glass reflective look.
3. Trunk mat / tray recommendations? I often transport messy items and don't want to mess up the carpet.
4. The gap between my grill and hood seems to be about 5-6mm... larger than I would expect. Could anyone post a photo of that gap for me to compare to?
Thanks in advance,
Cyrus

Looks great. Get a good deal? How many miles?

Thanks fellas!
Nope, not a good deal at all! COVID pricing is just silly. It has 56k miles and I paid $45k+TTL. I am pretty sure it would be around $40k if it weren't for COVID. But a few thousand here or there isn't going to break me, and I was very picky about colors (it's Palladium / brown).

Congrats!
The windows will look mirrored regardless of tint, you don't need mirror tint. The reflective nature of the glass is amplified by adding tint. Sunshade I would reccomend a Covercraft folding shade

Nice car, congrats! I had Palladium Silver on my C350 and like it best of all the Mercedes colors. How do you like the ride on the 20 in wheels (assume it has runflat tires as well)?
Not sure which gap at the front you are referencing, maybe post a close-up picture?

Get your order in for the sunshade. I ordered mine six weeks ago on Covercraft and it has a shipping date of August 14.

Nice car , I would have the rear windows tinted . Not too dark , some W222s came with the factory tinted windows . I would try to keep it as close to OEM as possible
For the trunk mat, it may sound costly but I would try to contact the dealer , cheap ones might be not worth it . Weathertech should also be making a proper fit for the W222 but I have not checked it out
Happy Driving

Lovely car, I would personally suggest everyone hold on to these beauties, because there seems to be shortage of properly designed cars nowadays, starting with the W223, which is as boring and lame as it gets..

2. IMO, window tint on one of these cars looks ghetto or makes the car look like a limo. Keep it classy and stock.
3. Weathertech products tend to be slippery. Look for a product that will help hold the items in your trunk in place so everything isn't shifting everywhere.
4. You can loosen the 4 screws at the top holding the grille in place, then push in and re-tighten them until you get the desired gap.
Thanks fellas!

My car looks just like yours, except I've got the spoiler option.

I disagree about the window tint, I think they look great tinted as long as its not too dark.
Mine's tinted 40%. This also shows you what the mirror OEM windows look like tinted:

I was wondering about the Weathertech vs MB trunkmat... does anyone have experience with either of these?
Thank you very much!
1. Unless you live in a place like TX, AZ, or FL and your car sits out in the sun all day during the summer....and you never use any kind of conditioner on your dash, a sun shade is completely unnecessary. If it's a warm day, just hold down the unlock button on your remote so the windows and moonroof completely open, which simultaneously turns on the cooled drivers seat. It only takes about 10 seconds for 90% of the heat to exit the car.

Yep....the price of used cars is insane right now. I purchased my 2015 that originally stickered for $119.5k in December with just 30k miles for $47k. I now see similarly optioned cars with those miles going for $52-54k. My daughter works for GM and mgmt is telling her that the chip shortage is going to last at least another year before they start to get caught up, so these insane prices are going to be around for a while. I've received mail from my local Benz dealer offering to buy any late model used car in good condition for "well over retail price".

I live in Maryland but the car sits outdoors both at my office and at home; the heat does not bother me, I just want to protect the dash. Alternatively I could have the windshield tinted with a transparent film.
Thanks for the tip on the grill! I will try that today.

Thank you. I do not plan on very dark tint, but I do like the privacy it offers. Perhaps something around 30%. I certainly do not want it to look hood.

Well I was too impatient to wait for a Covercraft sunshade (8 weeks is wayyyy too much for something like this IMO), so I got an Intro-Tech sunshade off of Amazon (). Fits great, works great, no regrets! It's a few dollars cheaper than the Covercraft but seems like a high quality product also.
More exciting news, I got a set of Michelin A/S 4 tires in today... hopefully will have them mounted in the next few weeks. I'm having a rim specialty shop check them for bends, straighten them (if needed), refinish any curb rash (there are a few small marks on every wheel, I'm guess from potholes rather than actual curbs), then mount the new tires!
And finally, getting 40% 3M Crystalline tint tomorrow.
