W222 Raised Transport Mode

Transport Mode raises the vehicle even higher than the standard vehicle raised height mode on W222 Airmatic equipped vehicles. This mode would assist the front air dam in clearing a tilted roll back transport deck, train ramp or similar.

I tried this mode and snapped a few photos of the results. Looks like it could help get you out of a stuck high-center, high water, deep snow or if you had to get a jack under the vehicle if off-road. Probably could help elderly persons enter & exit. Its takes a few minutes to raise and lower to & from the transport height so be patient while it transforms if you try it. Maximum speed is 20 MPH or 32 KPH. I did not try to drive in this mode yet.

With the engine running, to start you need to be completely in the standard raised position after you have short pressed the raise vehicle button with the vehicle in "P"ark.

After the vehicle finishes its standard Vehicle Rising ^ phase, you long press the raise vehicle button for 5 seconds. There will be no indication that it is raising further other than the noise of the air compressor running and the air strut valves engaging and releasing as the vehicle raises around the 4 corners. After it completes raising to the transport mode, the raise vehicle button's red LED will be flashing. There will also be a message in red on the dashboard stating Max. Speed 20MPH with a red outline of a vehicle & a down arrow.

To lower the vehicle out of transport mode, long press the
raise vehicle button for 5 seconds, Again this takes to awhile to lower from this height.

Mud Flaps/ Splash guards on order.

Wow, great find! Is this even in the manual?

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. It certainly can be helpful in many of the situations you mentioned.

Incredible Find!!! If it works on my 14', this will help tremendously. When I do Oil Changes, Brake Bleed etc, I usually drive up on 4 Ramps
Amazon.com: RhinoGear 11912ABMI RhinoRamps MAX Vehicle Ramp - Pair (16,000lb. GVW Capacity) : Automotive Amazon.com: RhinoGear 11912ABMI RhinoRamps MAX Vehicle Ramp - Pair (16,000lb. GVW Capacity) : Automotive
But because of the restriction of the rear, I cannot slide the ramps under due to the low clearance. I have to drive up partially on the front two, then press the emergency brake, put it in park, then place the 2 additional ramps under the rear wheels, then finish driving up on the fronts. This will solve my problem and give me incredible scootch around height and the safety should the bladders leak while I'm under there.

Really cool find! Will test.

Please, always use suitable jack stands before working under any vehicle. I would not trust a lifted air suspension to hold its raised position. Thanks

Yes, I agree 100%. What I had mentioned also is that the car is on 4 ramps way overrated for the capacity of the car. Thank you for pointing out Safety First! I had a friend many years ago who was working on is car with a bottle jack, he was on a creeper under the car, The jack had a small leak, the car had lowered so slowly, he had no idea. He ended up getting pinned under the car for several hours until his wife came home to get help. Thank goodness the car did not go any lower, he had trouble breathing and his head was sideways unable to move.

Safety . Safety . Safety. Thank you again for pointing it out.

I tried it on my 2018 with MBC and it's a no go. I kinda figured with the MBC it wouldn't work but had to try. The Raise mode works ok but nowhere near as high as your car in the pic. in Transport mode. That would be good for off roading, lol

I would assume transport mode max's out the raised air suspension so I wouldn't recommend repeated use ⛔️ 😉

Yes, in the 2019 US issued S-Class manual 2225843910 under "Transporting" pages 420-421

"Transport Level" -- Works on 2017 (pre-facelift)

I stumbled upon this "Supplement to the Operator's Manual," for my 2017 S550 (pre-facelift). Not sure if 2017 was the first year "Transport Level" was operational or not.

I tried it, and sure enough, the car went freakishly high. I don't have any immediate plans to ford a river, but if I do... I'll make sure to stay under 12 mph.

Here is the one and only page, from the Operator's Manual Supplement (part# 222 584 66 06):

Car raised to "Transport Level":

Car lowered back down to "Normal Level":

Happy Motoring!

Adaptive Damping Plus? Was that a standard feature or an option?

I believe Adaptive Damping PLUS was standard, coupled with AIRMATIC. The optional suspension was Magic Body Control.

I can say with certainty that my car does not have Magic Body Control, so I have the "standard" suspension setup.

I found it interesting that in the 2017 manual they tell you to deactivate transport mode and THEN drive off the transporter.
Probably just a mistake.
