2014 S550: Reverse camera won't stay open !!

Hello,
When I put the car into reverse, the image from the backup camera displays for about 1 second. The best way to describe it is it's almost as if the flap opens then meets and obstruction and closes immediately. For the 1 sec it is open, the image looks perfect. Then in the surround 360 view, the zone of the image from the reverse camera is just black and shows an icon of a camera with a red line through it. My assumption is that since the image actually shows up for a split sec, I feel the camera actually works, and is more of an issue of the door staying open ??? I removed the license plate (which hadn't changed) just to rule that out, and still had the same result.

Live in the city (downtown Chicago) and the camera is very useful for navigating this boat around tight spaces. Help resolving this would be appreciated.

[[[[ This forum has been infinitely helpful in me learning about the car and dealing with other issues. THANK YOU ALL. ]]]]

Also, can this part with the handle and camera be removed directly by prying it out? Or does some trim or panel need to be removed first to access it? I've been curious if there might be a loose wire or if something got dislodged slightly and unplugging and reattaching it solves the problem. Something big rolled around my trunk. Don't know if that could have done it.

Instructions for removing trunk lining

Ok. So I ordered a camera off ebay. No I need to remove the lining on the inside of the trunk lid to get to it, however, I can't figure out how to remove the two things that look like "bumpers". Prying out the rivets is easy. Do these two bumpers not need to be removed? Any help would be appreciated. Are there instructions out there for this type of thing?

@konigstiger Thank you very much.

It was good to see "behind the scenes" of the entire thing, however, it didn't address the two [bumper things] that were causing me hesitation on a self install. Decided to take it in for a replacement. (There's no savings if it takes me hours of research and causes me stress even though I'm positive it's a simple plug and play fix- just can't get to it without risk of damaging something else). Write a check and call it a day....do something else

Thanks again. I need to get that book, lol.

I know this is old but I'm trying to do the same thing. All I need to do is replace that trunk handle. Did you end up having to remove the liner to get it out ?

I was unable to get the liner open when trying to do it myself. Ended up going to a mechanic to install a camera which I bought a used one off eBay (since I was unable to get to the camera myself). Turns out that didn’t work, so I again paid to have it replaced with a MB camera. In the end, it involved more work with the wiring itself, than just the camera swap. Hopefully not your scenario, but that’s how mine played out. Good luck.
