How do you find the sat-nav, especially live traffic, in a pre facelift S class? How does it compare to CarPlay Google Maps / Apple Maps / TomTom?
Thinking about getting a 2017 S500 convertible but a bit worried the sat-nav will already be outdated.

It is 100% outdated. Even with the updates its clunky in my opinion and does not compare to google maps /waze or any navigation app on your phone.

Thank you for the comment. Clunky in what sense? Difficult to use or not accurate? Personally I love the accuracy of Google maps / Waze / etc but find touch screens one of the most clunkiest interfaces in a car on the move. I really don’t like using a phone in the car for navigation.

How about installing a Carplay/Android Auto module to use in place of the factory system.

They're relatively inexpensive and connect to your phone with a wireless connection so you can use Waze, etc... and still retain the stock functions when you need them.

The Anrdoid Auto/Carplay solutions are the best you can get. The huge advantage is that maps and traffic are constantly being updated with no effort from the end user. And if you use Waze (my go to), you get the crowd-sourced information about road conditions. The native NAV application and update process are pretty much obsolete the moment they are installed thanks to mobile technology.

The one caveat to this is sat-nav communication in remote areas, where you might not get cellular signal.

Do you have any installers that you recommend in SF Bay area? I had one installer that wanted $1200 to install your kit, I am NOT able or willing to take my own S-Class apart and it wasn't worth $1200 to me. Or even in state of CA?
