S500 Convertible
Rattles & squeaks

I find my W222 S500 convertible has lots of different rattles & squeaks rearing their heads at different times and in different conditions (cold vs warm).
Do you experience the same? I wasn't expecting this from such a top level car.
I had a Bentley GTC gen 1 before and can't remember it having these sort of issues, think the build quality was much better.

Hmmm I mean Bentley is technically a tier or half a tier above MB, squeaks and rattles are also not a strong suit for MB, that is a common issue across their models. That said though, the W222 only commonly reported having these issues when touching the trim pieces. The other models in the lineup squeaks and rattles while simply driving.

In a word...YES. I have a 2018 S63 and I hear the same noises. However, I had a W220 S600 V12 back in the early 2000's and that car had no squeaks or rattles. But it was a mechanical disaster! I think MB changed their focus over the years. The mechanical quality is actually better, but they've "relaxed" on the German over-engineering of less complicated/critical parts. I remember how everything back then was held together with a multitude of redundant torx head screws. That's not the case any longer; most body panels have friction fittings with only one or two screws. It decreases the time it takes for assembly and disassembly, but they're far more prone to squeaks and rattles. And when you have leather on leather movement/friction, it's always going to squeak. I've decided it's worth it, in case I need to work on things in my car, but I totally understand when people find it bothersome.

Yeah, I mean... my 2022 911 Turbo S has rattles, and I'm sure my 2018 S63 has some too at times but yeah, it's modern times, we are lucky to be driving such cool cars. Just take it to your dealer and see if they can isolate where it's rattling, maybe they can help. I'm going to bring in my 911 at some point in the next few mos when I have time, but time is so precious. I usually am listening to the radio and it cuts out some of the noise. Hondas and Range Rovers probably rattle sometimes too. They're all just cars, lots of parts.

You can just focus on the exhaust note and magically everything else disappears in front of your eyes I mean your ears : )

Rattles and squeaks should not be accepted in these vehicles. My 2025 W214 makes no noises at all which is exactly what I expect. I would expect the S-Class to be even more premium than my E-Class in that area.

Mine is pretty solid. The drivers door has a slight rattle over rough roads or a RR crossing. Could be something in the door pocket… need to clean it out and investigate. Nothing I find annoying and my wife says I have dog ears.

It’s brand new. The newest W222 is 4 years old.

2017 Convertible. I've never been in a convertible that didn't have some squaks and rattles.

This.... OP’s 2017 Convertible was likely built in 2016. Eight years old. Leather shrinks, plastic shrinks and degrades. All pivots wear. If the car has been crashed during it’s life the chassis may be more inclined to flex over bumps ect.

OP don’t think for a minute that a Bentley or Rolls doesn’t also squeak at same age and miles. They do. Difference being the Bentley/Rolls May have covered 2500 miles now and live in a climate controlled garage. We DRIVE our Mercedes. Rolls Royce that are used regularly in a hot climate will; eight years later also have all the pretty wood on inside door panels shrink; rolling up and falling off in chunks. Seen it myself enough times. Our cars age.

When I turned in my latest 2020 S560, with approximately 21K miles, it was absolutely rock solid. Not one squeak or rattle ever.

2019 S63 4Matic+, 2018 E400 Cabrio, wardens car.
Drove around in my wifes E400 Cabrio today. 2018 example with 40K miles and absolutely silent in the cabin. No rattles or creaks of any kind. My 2019 S63 is the same. Bank vault quiet on the freeway in comfort mode.
