I totally agree.

They've made it clear their target demo is the younger Asian buyer. I think it soon will be lights out for many of current MB loyalists.

Beautiful picture BTW.

I agree but this is much ado about nothing
The W223 sports the same Mercedes star as the W222...

Yes. It's hard to make the leaper safe. With the Rolls Royce and Bentley versions they can retract or topple backwards. The leaper by its nature could impale someone. There was no way to have the leaper in all countries and as a global brand it didn't make sense to have it just in the US.

I also find it odd that US regulations allow the leaper, but ban Adaptive LED headlights.

Benz did do away with the Star on the AMG vehicles I think it was starting model year 2014. I had a 2012 e63 amg wagon and it had the star. I really liked that car, one of best vehicles I ever owned. When it got to be 6 years old I traded it in for a 2018 E63 amg wagon, no star and to me that car just did not feel right, I felt they got away from the luxury end of things too much and the car was super stiff even in comfort mode and a lot of other things I didn't like about car, got rid of it after just a year, took a bath but very happy to be driving the S class Sedans since, as was said I hope they don't do away with the stars although it won't affect me for a long time as I'll probably drive 2017 S550 another 5 years or so and then at that point find a good used 2020 S560. I cant see myself every going to the 2021 and beyond, just don't like all those screens.

Touchscreen controls, driver distraction, and German courts

...I do wonder if the court would have ruled the same way, if it had been a W223 driver interacting with his touch screen to adjust the sound system's bass control or something.

Very interesting! I had the experience once of having a big truck pass me on the highway and throw a wall of water on my car. The automatic wiper blades didn't react as quickly as I did grabbing the stalk to switch the wipers to high. Had I had only a touchscreen to do that I don't know what would have happened. As it was I was blinded for a couple of seconds.

Certain vital functions aren't well suited to menus and touchscreens .. among them: wipers, fan speed, volume. These should have analog controls available for quick & intuitive adjustment.

I actually like having the cruise control better on the lever stalk rather than the steering wheel as on the 2018 and up. Sometimes older tech is better than new tech.

Unfortunately a lot of manufacturers feel the need to replace sometimes very good and well accepted design, with worse solution and bad execution.
....and they do it only for the sake of "change" and questionable improvement (in their eyes not the customers).

About the upstanding star on the hood... Mercedes pushed the lesser models to the avant-garde grill to keep this more exclusive for the s class.

That is the only thing I don't like about my car. I wish the cruise stalks had not been changed. Too many buttons and motions with the new designs. First, you have to turn the system "ON" and then set the speed all the while having to look down at the buttons. I have been used to doing it by feel for 30+ years and you never had to turn the system on.

Turbos are gone, a lot of parts can not be cleaned properly and have to be replaced.
Parts alone are about $13K, waiting to see if insurance would take the claim.
Most likely will go back to stock turbos, since i don't feel like spending additional $17K on another Renntech package.(still have the ECU though).
Things like that make me seriously considering an electric car for next daily, never having the need to go to another gas station.
I want to see the new Lucid Air and then who knows?

The AMG model will have a center star as opposed to the standing star. Interesting.
