Thanks for clarifying. Truly thought it was standard. I thought the two seat back tablets were the option. Oh well.

Standard Burmester is great. Radical difference when individual profile is set up.

3D requires keeping the steering wheel higher than I prefer. If the wheel is not raised near the very top limit….bye bye to the 3D.

HUD is really ground breaking…imo. Huge amt of info is displayed. Looks like it’s beyond the windshield and into the driving field. Kudos! Have not tested the use of polarized sun glasses yet. Hopefully, they no longer conflict with HUD.

Doesn't disappoint. Glad I didn’t put the acquisition off a bit. Time is precious…and I can see how this car enriches my life.

I do not see the option for the "Normal HUD" in the 2022 Configurator. Do you have an Item # for that?

If you go to the Mercedes German Website (Personawagon) [ make sure you hit ENGLISH in the top right hand corner] you can see the difference in configuring. They offer a lot more options. There is a standard HUD and a 3D HUD, the US does not offer that! Now, if that will change for the 2022 lineup, who knows?

Called my Chicago area dealer on Friday and he said they had received 6 S’s. 5 had already been sold but the 6th one would be available to drive on Saturday. Got there at 1pm and someone had come in that morning and bought it on the spot. In any case I had ordered mine in January and it has been sitting in Baltimore since around May 5th. The dealer said my cars paperwork has been sent to the trucking company, meaning it should be here within a week. He printed the sticker and well as the detailed build sheet. Happy to report all the options ordered are included. (AMG package, Warmth and Comfort, 3D Tech package, Night package, 20” AMG Multispoke wheels, Rear Axle Steering). There was also some talk of the message/active contour seats not being included because of parts shortages, but they are on this car.
The other reason I went to the dealer was to drop off my 2018 S class. My lease payment for the month was already overdue and Saturday was the last day the car could be “grounded” before paying another month. I’ve been getting an extension now for 6 months after the official lease end, and just don’t want to pay another month.

ExBMW….You’re fortunate to be one of the rare birds to have the massage not deleted. It would be difficult to locate one so equipped for a good while.
I have my S580 for almost a day now….it’s a fascination! Works very well…so far.
Enjoy minute by minute.

So did your car in Chicago get sold to someone else, did you want another one, or is it still on the way?

The AR HUD is truly amazing, You state “Looks like it’s beyond the windshield and into the driving field,” in fact as per MB literature:

The display area of the augmented reality head-up display corresponds to a monitor with a diagonal of 77 inches.

77 INCHES !!! WoW!

I’m glad to hear you’re happy with the standard Burmester. Just don’t try the 4D Burmester, because you’ll be blown away !
Took me a lot of heart wrenching but pulled the trigger and splurged the extra $$ and went for it:
31 Speakers
1750 Watts
2 Sound Amplifiers
8 (seat) exciters

Pure acoustic bliss.

Are these codes for the 2021 S Class cars? I see this Code 438 used in earlier models?

Yes, they’re for the 2021 S Class. (I have no idea if Code 438 was used in earlier models, but I assume if it’s the same HUD spec , why not, especially since it’s the”normal” HUD)

Are you a salesperson or dealer that you have these codes, I thought there was only the 3 D Technology HUD on the 2021 S Class?

I’m neither. Just a (satisfied) customer that’s done a deep dive into the 2021 S Class since it’s Sep 2020 media launch. I got the codes/options from the German MB pricing guide which help me custom build mine (thank God for google translate ), in addition to numerous other sources/references.
I’ve posted it, and other details, in various posts of mine.
If you need it don’t hesitate to ask, it’ll be my pleasure.

Also, the actual nomenclature is MBUX Augmented Reality Heads Up Display.
The 3D is only for the Driver Display option. Not sure why many are calling the AR HUD the 3D HUD.

The DFO 3D Technology package includes the: 445 MBUX Augmented Reality Head-up Display and the 451 3D Instrument Cluster. They combined them together likely causing some to call it the 3D Head-up Display.

Looks like all 2021 cars will be sold by wednesday, most with $5-10k markup. What about 2022s? When can we expect to start getting them delivered? I know that some cars will start arriving to VPCs in mid September.

Also curios what are the changes from 2021? Is there a AMG version (S63 or S73)?

People come to this Forum in hopes to find answers, suggestions and answer question and reviews but we need to remember this Forum is world wide! So, the location and market region is very important when trying to answer these questions! Over in Germany these codes that you posted are real but here in the USA and probably elsewhere are meaningless. The hand out I received from my dealer and the website in the USA shows no standard HUD but the optional 3D Technology HUD is available. One of our member told us there would be a delay if he ordered the 3D HUD, I believe canceling that option gets you no HUD (IN THE USA). One would think on a car with all this standard equipment a standard HUD would be there? If these US websites aren't telling the whole story I apologize but the order configure is still based on location!

I’m certainly not an expert in this area, and maybe another forum member who is can chime in, but from my searching/reviewing/cross referencing, the vast VAST majority of the codes (standard & optional) are common worldwide. I could rattle off a bunch that I see in front of me that are common. (standard code 16U is Apple car play in US, right? It’s also in Germany. Option code 447 is MBUX rear tablet in US. right? Guess what? It’s also, in UK, and on and on).
So they’re not really meaningless in US or elsewhere

I think the only difference would be in certain country specific packages.

The codes are globally recognized as far as I know. Each country decides which options to offer, and some get bundled up into region-specific packages, like the S-Class "lines".

AMG model is still a ways off.

Yes, and that's all I'm saying! If you configure a S Class in the USA you have Trim Level, Paint, Wheels, Interior, Trim and a few options. On the German configure there is at least 25 additional items to choose and most you are not able to get in the USA, I'm referencing the member that decided to cancel Advance Technology HUD to get his car sooner and you told him he should have gotten the Standard HUD, if he is a USA guy, no way.

Haha! If that is a prayer, I'm with you. My 2022 is sitting in Baltimore awaiting sell out of the 2021's!

Apologies, I must of totally misread/misunderstood/messed up your comment:
