Sport Pkg or Nah?

Whats the consensus on the AMG Line?

In the past I wouldn’t even consider not getting the sport package however the W223 “base” looks pretty good too IMO.

What are your thoughts on the upcharge for this option?

I think the AMG line looks better especially with the 21s. But you could always do a chrome delete and/or paint the atock wheels black to get a more sporty look and still have a more elegant interior.

2020 S560 Sedan, 2019 SL450, 2019 E450 Luxury Trim Wagon, '24 BMW I7 on order...
It’s $4,300.00 for different wheels, some different body panels, different pedals and some badging. The “different” items can’t possibly cost much more than the ones they replace, so MB pockets a cool $4,300.00 for pretty much nothing other than allowing drivers of these huge saloons to feel they are somehow “sporty.” Personally, I hate sport editions of huge, elegant vehicles. They just seem ridiculous to me. In addition, on the W223’s, I feel that the Luxury Line models look way more refined and elegant than the AMG Line models, but of course, this is all just my opinion. If someone wants to truly be “sporty,” they should get a two-seat convertible.

My idea of “sporty.”

I am getting the AMG line. I think it looks better than the Luxury line. The 21s look great, but I think I am getting the 20’s for a better ride, without the night package.

I still think the AMG line looks better than the luxury line, but its not as huge an improvement as it is in the W222, where I wouldn't have bought the car without the AMG package.

I also have the AMG kit (but without night package) and like everything about it EXCEPT the black “paint job” on lower part of rear end. Honestly, I don’t see the purpose of it and IMO reduces the aesthetics and flow of the rear end. Personally, I think it would of looked better with just a continuation of the rest of the body color scheme.

I think any concept of "saving money" on a $120,000+ car is silly lol. If you like the AMG styling, then get it. Being concerned about whether $4,500 is "worth it" or not on a car like this is silly, get what you like the most so you can enjoy this incredibly indulgent luxury purchase as much as possible.

And I think being so wasteful in today's economy is silly! And arrogant too 'LOL'! Vanity is a killer.
Unless you have one of those parking spots at your house where you can see and admire your car all day, then the 'appearance package' is for everyone else....again: 'LOL'.

Then why buy a car like this at all? There is way more wasteful about a $120,000 car purchase than a $4,500 appearance package. The logic makes no sense. Why did you spend money on goofy looking orange wheels? Do you look at your wheels all day? Thats not "wasteful"?

And yes, I look at my car often and what it looks like is important to me. Anybody who buys a $120,000 luxury car and says they don't care what it looks like is lying.

The point is, get what you want. Don't skimp or you're just not going to be as happy with the car as you could be.

You're passing judgement on someone's choice to get this package, calling it "vanity" and "arrogant" etc. As if the purchase of a car like this has no vanity until the addition of this package. Silly.

If you like the way the car looks with the package better than the way the car looks without the package...get the package. The $4,300 is meaningless in the context of the cost of the overall car. If you prefer the way the car looks with the luxury line, then get that.

Of the 2 photos you posted, I think the AMG version looks slightly nicer, but not enough by itself for me to spend an extra $4K+. Both versions look good. I did choose the AMG version because I wanted the Rear Wheel Steering option that is not available on the base model in the USA.

Order update: The ship carrying the car I ordered docked in New Jersey this morning. I assume it can get to anywhere in the United States within a few weeks, but I am now at the mercy of the 2022 S-Class release date.

I incurred the use of those words after you let loose on your opinion about my comment and was rebutting to your comment. And why are you so hung up on my opinion of cost anyway? THAT is the arrogant part of this, not whether or not someone should get that option. Are you having a bad day? Maybe have some misplaced aggression towards an opinion different than your own? Or is this just about money? Why is that amount of money indifferent to the total cost of the car? That would be about the same cost as upgrading the interior leather wouldn't it?
Sheesh man, this is a little out of character on your part

In black the AMG package has a slight edge for me. If you go with a lighter color the luxury bumper will look less...nice. Just my opinion.

Agreed, black is the best color for the luxury bumper as less of the front end plastic sticks out. I find that the AMG-Line’s more angled and slight aggressive design works better overall and is more coherent with the rest of the design, its especially best in lighter colors like White.

My point is, when buying a car like this, don't scrimp and not get options that you want. If you want to upgrade the leather, upgrade the leather. If you want the AMG styling package, get that. I don't have an issue with the decision to not get the package if you don't want it, its the concept that you should "save money" by not getting something you want because its "not a good value". That makes no sense with a car this expensive. There's no "value" in this purchase, you may as well get what you want.

My car lacks things I would like to have, but I wasn't able to find a car with what I wanted, or I would have gotten those features. With a W223, you're in a position to get what you want...so get what you want. You don't want to be driving around in a $125,000 car saying "wow I wish my car looked like that one"

Totally agree with you. I’d rather get what I want and have the initial pain of paying a bit more, which will pass soon enough by worrying about another of life’s expenditures, than not getting something and kicking myself in the as* for years to come regretting.not getting it.

Life has absolutely taught me, get what you want the first time. I have several times traded cars for the same car just equipped the way I want it equipped, which cost way more than it would have cost me to just get the car equipped the way I wanted it the first time.

Thought it might help to have a quick gif that shows the different packages besides just the front. Personally prefer the AMG package for the car and have for the last 4 generations...

I really like the AMG package, particularly the front end and the 21” AMG V Spoke wheels. You also have the option of the 4.5 degree rear wheel steering.

I see, your thoughts seem to be born of regret. Why didn't you just configure the car the way you wanted it?? I've never gotten a car off the lot.....always configure and order

I have no regrets at all with my current car, I wasn't able to configure it and order it because production had already ended on the W222, and there weren't a lot of available cars to chose from. The only two things I wish it had were the exclusive nappa interior and the Burmester High End audio, niether of which I skipped because of cost, I skipped them because getting a car with them was impossible. I have however had regrets before when skipping options I wanted to save cost, which is why I would suggest that people get what they want vs worrying about a few thousand dollars on a $125,000 car.

Fair enough Funny you mention those 2 things.....I ordered both on my last, and only S class that I sold already.
