Humming noise

Wondering if anyone else had a similar issue. 2021 s580. I have a subtle humming noise coming from the front end above 30mph, speed related. Noise becomes louder on left curves. Changed the front right wheel bearing and still there. Dreading bringing this to the dealer and having them tell me they don’t hear anything. I have 1000 miles on the car 🤦‍♂️

As much as a dealer might be incompetent, I think one should not be discouraged to bring the car in for them to look at, particularly when one's car is so new and under warranty.
Even if they cannot do their job, it is still their responsibility which should not be easily shed off voluntarily by the car owner.

BTW, who did the changing of the front right wheel bearing? Was it not by your dealer?

This is a warranty issue and should be taken care by dealership. It could be the wheel bearing for sure as you said it increases on left turns but it can be the left wheel bearing and not the right sometimes. Or it can be the tires. I had both issues before on other cars but take the car with the shop foreman and go for a test drive and duplicate the noise.

agreed. Master tech friend at an independent German auto shop. Dealer was a 4 week wait.

Does it sound like wind noise, mechanical, or interference coming through the speakers? Does it get worse as speed goes up? Is there a speed after which it starts? Is it at idle?

not wind noise. Not road noise. Can start hearing It around 30mph and the pitch changes with speed. Higher frequency hum with higher speeds. Lower frequency hum at lower speeds. Sounds very similar to a bad wheel bearing. On left curves it’s pronounced. Right curves = nothing

Spindle, ball joint or rod. Disappointing to hear that happening on a new car. Should be a quick fix at the shop as long as it's not intermittent. But if it's a connection, they should be able to find it with a visual inspection whether they hear it or not on the test drive.

I didn’t think about the front diff. That’s an internally sealed part designed to last the lifetime of a vehicle. Manufacturing defect?

Check out this TSB. LI32.35-P-075054 JUL22 – 223 4matic up to manufacturing date 8/18/21 knocking noises from the front axle when turning right/left driving slowly, replace sway bar end link.

Thank you for this update.

This kind of followup report is important because it forms a useful database for anyone to refer to when a similar problem arises. This is quite beneficial.
