I love the HUD. I can see why people would find the 3D a skip; it's got some cool factor but doesn't add any actual benefit. The HUD on the other hand is brilliantly executed and has real value. Clear, sharp, useful information right out where you can see it without looking down. Once you become accustomed to the VR cues it's hard to miss a turn during navigation. Your DJ can use the center console to keep the tunes going and you still have the drivers screen for the map with everything you need to drive in the HUD.

Best HUD implementationI've had so far; no question. So glad I checked that box!

Although it was supposed to be delivered in Sept/Oct my 580 has almost hit land! Now onto the VPC and a car carrier to the Bay Area. I hope my decision to go with graphite gray instead of selenite gray magno was the right choice. I still have not seen a 580 in graphite grey in person yet.

BTW, I fully expect to tell @crabman that he can tell me “I told you so” when I blow a tire on my 21’s within the first 2 weeks.

Lol, as I recall it you said something to that effect and I agreed!

The color is going to be spectacular, and you'll be glad you ordered it. I could be wrong but I'm fair confident.

Nice spec all around and I think you're the first here with the Gucci interior so we'll be expecting pics when you get bored.

Port Hueneme?

The ship my car was on was supposed to dock at the port in Long Beach. Instead, there was a last-minute change to Port Hueneme ~70 miles away. Has anyone had that happen to them?

I was notified that my vehicle was on a ship headed to Brunswick, GA.
Then I was told it was in Halifax. It is now arriving in Paramus, NJ. Hopefully the next stop is GA.
Finally ... the car has been on order for 18 months.
Hopefully yours is arriving now.

Wait a second. I had to read that twice. 18 months? Did you ask that the car was built entirely by hand and the leather was exclusively from the cows where they get wagyu beef?

Do you know how long your car sat at port before being loaded on the ship?

I'm guessing this thread came up in a search and it's not one of our cars. Whatever it is I'm glad he's finally getting it.

jsoloddss65,
Unfortunately, true. My car is a S580e. Parts, chips, certifications, dealer training, all of the above? I put the charging station in about eight months ago.
And, as of today, I have the VIN but the MSRP has not yet been released. I do not know how much the vehicle cost.
I will be posting photos and delivery info sometime soon. The shop is still in Paramus, hopefully leaving soon for Brunswick.

How did you get an order in 18 months ago when the car wasn't available to order until last June?

crabman,
I put down the deposit when the talk was that the hybrid might come out as a 2022 model. When the Dealer Order Guide finally came out on March 30 the detailed order went in. Got my first update on options on June 10. There has been some additional fine tuning as the DOG revisions came along but it ended up in a good spot.
The only second thought I've had is the reduced trunk size. I will be posting photos of the size difference when the vehicle arrives.

Trunk volume in numbers. I'm afraid it is a bit more complicated, also depends on the rear seat and audio options a bit.
Photos welcome.

Thank you. This is helpful. To your point, the car on order will include the subwoofer in the trunk, taking away more space.
No Fridge, though. FYI, I also have a standard S-Class and will do side-by-side photos.

There are a few videos you can find showing the trunk size side by side; I suspect you've seen those.

The EPA does not show a certification for the S580e; their database is kept surprisingly up to date, although it may not have posted yet. Your dealership may have more information, but frankly, I knew before my dealership did. Outside the car not leaving the VPC while you wait for pricing you've also got that potential hang up. Wish I didn't have to say that because you're probably already tearing your hair out but I would want to know.

crabman,
I'm hoping EPA item is not an issue when the car is ready for release. As for the videos, I've seen one, but it did not have the subwoofer in the trunk, only the raised floor. If you know of one, it would be interesting to see. As of today, there is no MSRP info, so I'm assuming that this ties into the certification.

One isn't required for the other but we can hope they've planned for both to be along soon. It was about 3 weeks my car sat at the VPC waiting for pricing; in my case the certification was done before a 23 hit the beach for both the 500 and 580 so it rolled out of the VPC a couple of days after the pricing dropped.

Now MBZ is messing with me. My ship sailed past Long Beach to Port Huneme (in Panama it said it was going to LBC) I thought I would be unloaded there. Nope. It look off back to Long Beach. I guess this is way better than @crabman sitting at the VPC for 3 weeks!

I've a tangential business: The timing is never perfect in transcontinental shipping; you've got breakdowns; snafus with piloting, weather, etc. The latter can be substantial, and time between ports can more than double. Once you do get into a place like the Long Beach area you're going to fall into a queue to unload, in this case the scheduling is defined by what works best between two port authorities and a whole bunch of corporate interest.

It's aggravating, but you've been here before, you know. Hang in there. I find wine helpful in these situations. Not kidding.

Now I am getting annoyed! After shipping 3ish months late, my car has been at the VPC since the 9th. Still no word. If I don’t get it by next Monday I have to pay another month on the lease extension on my GT63. I think I may just turn in my GT63 and ask for a loaner. Thank you for letting me vent. My wife said it’s not a good look to vent to anyone else that my “Mercedes is taking too long.”

I guess the positive side is I have yet to have a tire explode, headlight issue, hotspot problem, etc that I am expecting after reading these posts for months.
