OP, I am guessing the E-ABC was the major let down you have with the S 580, as I am pretty sure you came with sky high expectations and was hoping to have expectations exceeded even yet got completely disappointed instead coming from the amazing magic body control. I can understand that feeling.

Stream, in all seriousness you do deserve a drama free car we all do. Let’s face it, unless you’re willing to pay up for a Flying Spur or a Ghost, the S class is really the best choice (warts and all). Hopefully they work out some of the problems in your new one.

What colour combination are you thinking for your new S500?

I am curious as to what S Class or even any other car that you think has the ultimate ride quality?

I ask as it seams that you are trying to achieve a certain ride quality? It has be based your idea of perfection or have you always been chasing it? Of course this is subjective but I have to say I am curious.

I think it’s too risky moving brands with an unknown set of issues. Hopefully the facelift generation will address many of the common complaints of the 223. My vote for you is get a temporary car for a year or so until the facelift S500 is released OR just drive your SL around in that in between time. Why be bothered buying a car for 12-18 months for mostly small commutes around town.

Well, I got t he car back today and it seems to be running fine, at least for now. Why this took 30 days is anyone's guess. Here is what the repair order said:

DRIVE my SL??? Have you LOST IT MAN? My SL450, or Mighty Mouse, as she (MM identifies as a female ) is affectionately known, just turned 4 years old this month and only has 3700 miles on her clock. Of the approximately 100 cars I’ve owned over the years, I have never babied one like MM. The car is absolutely pristine. I don’t even take it on the freeways as I don’t want my windshield to get even slightly pitted. I ordered her with ABC and then retrofitted AMG Ceramic Composite Brakes and AMG forged wheels. The car drives like a dream. I am her caretaker and she will never be used as a daily driver as long as I own her. It also hurts my back getting in and out of her.

Hmmm so two TIPS case and one XSF case... I wonder if this is a coincidence that your vehicle's issue resulted in that MB is now issuing a recall on the voltage converter? or is this not related? https://mbworld.org/forums/s-class-w...ss-recall.html

It's not clear if the new voltage converter comes with the updated software. The recall described above only mentions reprogramming.
You should've asked them if they are aware of the recall campaign and have fixed it accordingly. That's why the link was posted.

Hahaha this reminds me of this guy with his M6: https://www.businessinsider.com/man-...any-2013-9?amp

I remember seeing that a decade ago when we had an E61 535i wagon. Nice car, had it from 09 until 2014, but it was a complete POS. I wanted to do the same. The warranty almost paid for the damn car. Dumped it as soon as the warranty was up. That marked the end of me ever even considering another BMW. Faced with the junk they’re putting out now (and having learned more about the Quandt family history), I don’t mind not even considering them.

A Korean owner based in Korea also used a golf club or baseball bat on their S 63 (S 65?) when it kept shutting down on the highway, I shared that article here earlier in case you missed it.

I had three W222’s: 2015 S550, 2018 S560 & 2020 S560. I ordered all of them with 18” wheels and Magic Body Control. I swapped out the run flat tires for Bridgestone QuietTrack non-RFT and all three of those cars had the best ride quality I have ever experienced in any vehicle. MBC was about a $4,500.00 option. When the W223 came out, MBC was replaced by EABC with a $6,500.00 option price. I got the option on my 2022 S580 and fully expected this new suspension option to be sensational and to provide an even better ride quality than MBC. WRONG! The new EABC in my humble opinion is absolutely HORRIBLE! The excuse I hear is that MB made the ride “sportier,” which to me is truly insane. Magic Body Control was simply wonderful, so naturally, MB decided to “fix” it. Yet another MB blunder.

I can’t see me spending the bucks to get a Bentley or a Rolls. Those cars are just not me. In addition, with the current level of absolute INSANITY that is destroying law & order in California, this old guy doesn’t need to advertise to any further degree that I might be worth mugging. At least with the S Class, the level of “in your face” wealth is several notches below that of Bentley or Rolls, which I see as a good thing. Mind you, as a much younger man, I once bought a new Corniche Convertible, exactly like the one in this old advertisement, so I’ve been there, but those days are gone.

More than likely, a new 223 for me will be a Mojave Silver or Selenite with black interior.

A sledgehammer... ah that reminds me of the video of a Korean owner grabbing a baseball bat or golf club and swinging it at his S 63 or S 65 or something after parked at his dealership that unfortunately was a lemon.

Hopefully you don't have to resort to that.
There are some brand new, stand alone Genesis dealerships, but I believe they are all in the south or eastern part of the US. I have not heard of any plans to build any in Southern California yet, but I’m sure they are coming.

No, I’m not the sledgehammer, baseball bat or golf club type of guy. I prefer to “torpedo” my opponents from my submerged iPad.

Ah perhaps your next car will be the V?223 Maybach? "Still" a Mercedes and without the attention a Rolls-Royce or Bentley has, the Maybach has "Maybach" Mode and it will (or I mean, got to be?) more comfortable than the regular S-Class?

I see, let's hope Genesis create some standalone dealerships in your area.

Ah, the good old "iPad" : )

It sounds like your issue is related to the recall. In fact, I bet a lot of the electrical issues and gremlins reported here directly or indirectly involve the old-fashioned 12-Volt battery, which isn’t getting properly charged due that converter, and hence kicks out a lower voltage. The recall calls out the safety systems (of course), but obviously it impacts essentially everything electrical in the car with failures manifesting itself in a more owner-obvious manner. The soft-close doors, for example, probably requires a fairly high voltage threshold to work, assuming it isn’t an actuator failure.
