I like the more aggressive M8 engine mapping vs the tuned B8 but either are quick. I personally think the B8 isn't worth the money (+ depreciation) and the car doesn't feel any more special inside. Don't like the wheels either.
A M850 would be a better fit; just add a tune if needed, in case the M8 isn't desirable. The B7 always made sense over the standard 7, on the X7 less so and the 8 Series not at all.

Watched that the other day. Those variants are my least favorite of both cars. Both the hybrid models feel clunky and unrefined IMO...

The i7 is really the differentiator. Driving the 760 and the S580 back to back the S580 drives better, the i7 is a different story.

 

The character doing this video is right up there in the running for “THE” most irritating of reviewers, in my opinion.

 

I didn't watch this particular video but I usually find his video pretty insightful, maybe it is one of those bad apples in a batch of apples, will need to watch it to see how bad it really is.

His conclusion I think mirrors where I am at. The 7 is better...but the S Class still is more appealing.

 

For those interested in the 7, it may be worth it to take a look at some of the used ones if there is a "reasonable" dealer around you. My local or 2nd local dealer (well, 300 miles away) has 5 of them, can't sell them, that two of them are discounted 25K already (not including the original depreciation!). You can easily get a 2023 model year for low 80s for the gas option, and slightly more for a pre-owned EV. I'd have considered this route myself but I have no interest in the 7, the look is still just too odd for me. I think these cars will worth literally nothing in 2 years. We've already seen that with the EQS when I considered one and found several 140-150MSRP selling for 70-75K! with few thousands of miles and less after 1 year....... A good number of fans still, but the demand is not even close to the supply yet. This has been the case from day-1 for the two dealers around me. The S580 is the better vehicle in my view, it's just a more well rounded car though I wish there is an EV option.

With these tech heavy luxury cars, gas or electric, I feel that leasing new is the way to go. Lease a new one and when the time comes to give it back, if you like it, get another one. If not, do something else. In the meantime, should there be huge issues, the full force of the original factory warranty is there to protect you, which is a really good thing. As of today, my I7 has been dispatched from the factory and is in Bremerhaven, awaiting assignment to a ship. Can’t wait!

I get that, but am not a fan of being stuck with a car (forced to be stuck with it) until the lease ends, in case I wanted one day to upgrade to something else. If I like something, I don't want to dream about it for a year or more, usually I'd get it same week or as soon as I find it. That's the only issue why leasing isn't for me... I buy cars to enjoy them and I don't want to be forced to return it on a certain day. Plus I don't keep my daily for 3-4 years, though I know a 2-years option sometime is an option.

Good luck with the delivery : ) .... Consider asking them to NOT detail the car or remove the factory exterior/interior protective sheets/wraps... That's usually the best part of any new BMW I ordered... unwrapping it myself and avoid all scratches that their detailers or washing machines may cause. They ignored my request on our new X5 recently, but at least I haven't noticed any scratches though it wasn't as fun for us during the delivery date (we like to unwrap our cars ourselves; it' fun).

 

You can trade out of a leased car whenever you want, it just might cost you some money. The huge depreciation hit will cost you money too.

"it just might cost you some money". That's exactly what am talking about. It'd be foolish to go the lease route IF and when I know that I won't keep that car long enough to justify buying it new. Examples include my last two S-class cars. These cars get SO MUCH BETTER every 4 years that I usually would want to upgrade to immediately, and therefore unless I buy the 1st year release, it's not for me. This is truly true for most of my daily drive sedans, but not our SUVs cause those are the ones we keep 4+ years or so, and hence we mostly buy them new. I like to trade in my daily drive sedan once every 1-2 years and for that reason I don't see any value whatsoever leasing. Buying it new with huge MSRP discounts if available or even better pre-owned with 3-5K miles is the right way to go in this case to get out of it after 12-18 months max. The only exception I ever made was my current Tesla S only because I know that this is a car I have no issues keeping for even 5-8 years, even if I get another Sedan as my daily. We have a Honda bonus car and it would make no-sense whatsoever to sell a good EV if I can sell an older gas car and make that EV our bonus car if I decide to get another daily in 1-2 years. So the spot for my current EV is reserved for so many years even after I decide to get another one, especially with 8-yrs and 150K warranty. If I bought an EQS, I would have likely went with pre-owned though; I don't see that car lasting 8-10 years without several visits to the shop from what am seeing online. It would have been a 1-2 years honeymoon type of a thing with the EQS. Anyway the EQS design was a complete turn off unfortunately otherwise the car drove really nice and one of a few EV with just acceptable range (MY25 EQS will almost hit 400 miles).

 

Well, not much of anything to do with cars is one-size-fits-all these days and I certainly understand your position. I’ve run several leases through to the end, as 36 months is something I can usually deal with, IF I like the car. If I don’t like it, well, I’ll cross that bridge when I come to it.

 

Well, the car is silver, which really doesn’t show small imperfections. If it were black, it would be another story. I’ve never “unwrapped” a car before and for my daily driver, I won’t be starting now. The last new car that was a big deal to me is my little SL that I special ordered and still currently have. Since there is no convertible out there that I would like better, I doubt that I’ll ever get another one, so “unwrapping” a new car will probably be one of those events that I will never experience. Thanks anyway for the suggestion, sounds like fun.

I’m so neurotic about my lowly SL, had I been given the opportunity, It would probably still be wrapped up, sitting in my garage today! As it is, it’s over 5 years old and only has 4400 miles on it.

 

I felt sad when you had it posted for sale. Great car and great specs. I can only imagine how good and nimble this car drives with "good" MBC.

Back in the days there was a detailing shop that would shrink-wrap almost any small-medium size part in my car for their ultimate detail package, like steering wheel, gear selector, emergency handbrake, headrests, armrests. It was also fun to unwrap my the car back then to a like-new finish. 30 USD for that service at that time.. nowadays it's almost the same amount for a quick exterior wash with 50 new swirl marks

 

Something about unboxing a product is so satisfying, I mean peeling that protective sticker/wrap from a new phone for example.

 

I like new shiny; it often comes wrapped in plastic, things must be opened. Associating one with the other seems almost a forgone conclusion; but then I am a simple man...
