Soft close door stopped working

My new S580 front driver side door's soft close mechanism stopped working. All other doors work fine. I've searched the forum and have found many posts about soft close door issues, but can't find any on such a new car. Any suggestions on if I can "fix" without taking to the dealer? Many have suggested removing the fuse, but thought I'd ask you guys for any suggestions??

Thank you in advance for any suggestions or guidance.

Funny. Because my driver door soft close stopped working too, on this very same day as yours all other doors functioning fine, exactly like yours.

Granted, my car is almost a year old now. But still.

Unfortunately, it looks like it'll need to go into the dealer to get fixed. I was trying to avoid this and was hoping a quick fix like removing a fuse and replacing (as mentioned in other forums) might fix quickly as my dealer is backed up for weeks even to get me in. And then the time without my new car for them to diagnose and fix. I've had my car for less than two months and am not wanting to drive a loaner for even a short amount of time. I know - 1st world problems.

One of my rear soft close stopped working on my GLS and strangely enough the dealer said they fixed it with a software update.

I know that feeling mate. I'm not taking my car in just for this one paltry problem. I'll wait till another issue pops up, and then get the two fixed together. And trust me, another issue WILL pop up. I browse this forum too much to expect otherwise...

I should also mention that, personally, I almost never use the soft-close function on the driver's door. I always close the door with enough force to latch it mechanically and instantly. My detailer is the one who found and reported this malfunction. He's the only one who's ever shown gentleness to my car. Everyone else just slams on their way out.

What city do you live in?

WHY don’t all members note their city in their profile???

That’s amazing to me that in a city that size, that you cannot get close to immediate service on your MB. Maybe try another dealer?

Quick update:

I KNEW IT

Driver door now refuses to open from the outside. Handle poped out alright, but seemed to remain locked, while all other doors were successfully unlocked.

Had to get in from passenger side, slide myself past the center console, and then open the driver door from within.

Used to be a fan of the new handles. Not sure I am anymore!

Well, that stinks! There are plenty times I pull the handle and the door doesn't unlock, but if I repeat a couple of times it does unlock. Hopefully yours is a one-time issue???

I'm wondering if the designers who decided to change from the PERFECT exterior door handles and door latching mechanisms that were used on previous S Class models--and are still used on most all of the other, current MB models--regret their decision. Just think: They had something that worked perfectly, caused zero issues, that nobody complained about, that were beautiful and replaced it with something overly complicated that can be infuriating to some owners, a possible safety threat and an absolute MONUMENTAL pain in the *** to MB service departments across the world. One SA I spoke with off the record said that his dealership was hearing constant complaints about the handles from many W223 customers. MB fixed something that wasn't broken.

I guess I phrased the issue badly: when I approach my car, the door handles pop out correctly. Then, when I grab onto the handle, as I usually do, I hear the same old unlock 'click', signaling to me that the car is now unlocked. At this point, all passengers are able to open the door by pulling on the handle. Except for myself - when I pull the driver door handle, nothing happens.

And if I pull hard enough, the rear end of the handle will pivot outward. But still, the door won't open...

I'll try to shoot a video tomorrow, before I pay my dealer a visit.

Not even a gay person tries to open the doors like on the video. Still not promoting the new door handles.

I’m guessing that as long as brand new tech is used in new cars, there will be issues. That said, the thing that kills me, is when they have something that is wonderful, proven, reliable and pretty much LOVED by their customer base, WHY must they change it? The door handles are a prime example, but for me, the change from Magic Body Control to EABC, is another great example. MBC was a $4,450.00 option that worked magnificently. They changed to EABC, the option price goes to $6,500.00 and in comparison, it performs miserably, at least in my opinion.

You ever think your issues may have been precipitated by the rather substantial surgery that was performed on your car rw? Not calling any kettles anything, but it would be in my mind were I you.

I bought a 2002 CL500 from Kyrus Frames at that dealership. I wonder if he is still there?
