I have a2023 S580(Canada ), A little question about the overhead speaker ! Between two pieces of the sunroof, there has a speaker, its looks like a burmester speaker, but its no sounds!? I have a package called premium rear seating plus package, one of the option is "Rear-cabin MBUX Interior Assistant" , I noticed that if s580 have this package , there will have one overhead speaker, if s5820 don't have this package, then no overhead speaker. I don't know this is a real speaker or just a design? Because in my car, this speaker doesn't work, which means no sound. But the ambient light is working. By the way, I don't have Burmester High-End 4D Surround Sound system.
Huh, that would be interesting if the rear interior assist makes that speaker be there but if you don't have 4D sound it doesn't work. I've seen a lot of 4D sound system cars also include the rear interior assist, so it's possible it's both ways.

-Any S with no high end audio (811) and no rear interior assist (78B) doesn't have any speaker on the roof.
-Any S with both 811 and 78B (for US Market this can pretty much only be 2022+) has the speaker and the gesture unit in it both active. For most if not all 2022+ S Classes that have the high end audio but no executive line/rear seat package will still have rear inereior assist as a standalone option so it's still active, unsure about Canada.
-For 2021s with high end audio, as 78B was not yet introduced, they must have the space for the rear inteior assist but it must just not have any hardwear/not be active. It's possible some 2022+ S580 luxury line/AMG line with 811 have no 78B and therefore also have this setup.
-For 2022s with executive line/rear seat package which includes 78B (2021s didn't, at least for the US), they'll have the extra speaker in the roof that houses the rear gesture camera but the speaker won't be hooked up to anything and won't work. This is where OP exists.
I'm pretty sure that's all correct but feel free to add your own evidence or experience.

Scratch that, there's definitely a version of the speaker that doesn't have the cut out for the rear interior assist. This is on cars with 811 and no 78B, including all 78B and most non executive line US 2022+ cars (but not all)
This car has the high end audio but no 78B, it's fully filled in with a circle in the speaker.
This one has 78B but no 811, it has the cutout. My assumption is 78B and 811 will have the same design, though I have had trouble confirming.
And yes, it seems as though without 811, that speaker does not produce sound. Best way to test that, though, is to listen close. But I can't imagine it gives sound given that a car with no 811 or 78B will have no speaker there at all.

Yeah, that’s weird. You don’t have 4D but you got the roof speaker.
Hi bro，this roof speaker is different with 4D roof speaker，is just a design for rear mbux camera. I asked my dealership，they said “ It is not a speaker. It’s just a decorative piece. ” Lol，soooo stupid design. And also，I found a new car in showroom same with my car，and no sound as well.

4D high end system has the speakers (tweeters?) on both doors at front edge of window as in picture. It's a dead giveaway. NOT the speaker at lower part of door, as in the poster's picture above, which all Burmesters have.

I have the 4D system which I ordered for my MY21 W223. Doesn't have the cutout which is for interior assist. I wanted interior assist, but at the time of ordering (back in late 2020) it was only available for a VERY limited number of interior colors. I think it's because the gesture could not be recognized with most interior leather colors at the time. They resolved that just a few months after receiving my car! And now available for all/most interior colors.

Aside from a few very early basically pre production cars, no US 2021s have gesture control for the front or rear, and I believe that even with the pre production cars, no sellable US cars have the rear gestures except for one or two maybachs. Front became standard and rear available on 2022s.
