For me, for an I7 to look even remotely attractive, it MUST have the "Luxury" trim and not the "M-Sport."

It's quite interesting how people can see things differently. To me, the only "acceptable" design is the M-Sport and only in dark colors, wherein light colors and "luxury" trim looks the ugliest (it emphasize the weird front design). None of them look good honestly, but at least the dark with M-sport look somewhat more acceptable.

I am starting to like the M Sport, there is a carbon black i7 M Sport that is running around here and its really sharp...

If I were to get an M Sport I would get a 760 or 750e though.

I would have to have it fully PPF'ed though so I could use a carwash

The G70 7-Series is really nice and I am starting to come around to like the design. She's a bit odd-looking and disproportional in pictures but it has mega presence in person. I like seeing them in traffic because the car towers over others like a Rolls-Royce.

Definitely. My dark blue sedan is fully PPF'd but I've been really hesitant about taking it ever to a car wash. The PPF guys, and even EASTMAN people (manufacturer or Llumar and Xpel PPF) have told me that car wash may cause damage to the seams and edges. Touchless car wash are kinda useless on the other hand. I was hopping to find anyone with a fully PPFd car and months-year of carwashes to see if it really has any bad implications on the film edges or not. I don't have many exposed edges but am still tempted. I might take it once by the end of winter.

It is much much better looking in person and does stand out.

I haven't had that issue, I have a full front clip on all my cars. For me I just don't have the time or energy to wash them myself, and don't want to sit around for a hand wash for an hour...

I can tell you that there are no scratches at all on the PPF on the front clip after 3 years of weekly carwashes.

That looks very nice. It has just the right amount of brightwork on the front, rear (which looks great) and wheels.

I don't have full PPF but all of my cars have the front end done, I've always use the touchless car wash and nothing happened so far....

Hi Streamliner, (S-Class)

I feel the same as you but had a few questions if you are able to speak or answer below would be much appreciated.

1) I have loved MBZ since the early 80s.
2) The last one I had was a 2018 S560 - custom ordered etc. loved the look and quality after prior year models post 1999 felt lacking. That said, the engine broke - literally replaced with a new one from Germany after 8,000 miles.
3) Gave car back post lease expiry - Sept 2021.
4) like 2024 s class looks. Miss driving behind 3 pointed star.
5) Read bad reviews though and have held off - would you say this makes sense to avoid the w223 despite my nostalgia and attraction to the body, brand etc?

thanks very much in advance

I am not thrilled with the exterior looks of this car or some of the interior trim items and would have much preferred to stay with MB but quite frankly, I believe that I did not leave MB, MB left me. With the unhappy experience I had with MB unwilling to fix the harsh shifting transmission in my 2020 S560 and then my absolute meltdown experience with my 2022 S580–both of which were repurchased by MBUSA—yes, that’s two in a row!—I felt that I needed a change. Swearing that my next new car would have amazing ride quality and comfort over all else, led me to my ugly duckling decision. The car drives like a dream.

The BMW dealer is about three blocks from my office and should I need to bug them about anything, it should be relatively simple. The fact that I usually drive between about 10 to 16 miles a day and can charge the car both at my home and office, coupled with living in idiotic California, where gas prices are currently around $5.20 a gallon, makes the idea of an electric car that much more appealing. We will still have two MB ICE cars in the household, should the need arise.

So, barring me finding my dream S560 (still searching for it!) while I wait for my new car to be delivered, I look forward to going BMW—and electric—this summer. Stay tuned!

I recommend just taking a 2023 model for extended test drive. This way you get to compare the W223 with the one you had.

The OP bought the car sight unseen and found that he hated the optional E-ABC suspension.
Then having the 48v system shutdown did the rest amongst other dislikes.

S580

I must have been one of the lucky ones with my S580. No issues. A great daily driver now with almost 20k miles. Will not go back to BMW too soon. I loved them before they became this strange shaped, blingy thing. No problem with all who like them and enjoy them. S580 might have its issues, but it’s a comfy quiet and luxurious ride.

Just noticed that in another thread, a fellow bought a new 2024 S580. He posted the build and the price for the AMG Line option was $4,300.00. BMW, with the I7, allows their customers the choice of either the Luxury or M-Sport packages, at NO CHARGE. In addition, one can choose 19” or 20” wheels at no charge. If you choose the AMG Line with the S580 and want 20” wheels, you’ll cough up another $850.00.

I’ve always thought the AMG Line or AMG Sport Packages were the ultimate ripoff. I would bet that the AMG body panels, wheels, etc. cost MB no more to produce than the standard ones, yet so many opt for the costly options. Oh well, P.T. Barnum was right.

$850 for the wheels I want on a $140,000 car isn't a big deal to me lol.

"PT Barnum" implies people who opt for the AMG appearance package (like me) are foolish, again...its a $130,000+ car. If I was worried about paying for the bumpers I want, I wouldn't be buying a $130,000 car.

My summary of the car show was screens, screens and more screens. As much as I don't like them in the W223 they looked better there than most. Only car I liked at all was the Audi E-tron Q8.

That's news to me. The BMW configurator shows $3900 for the 50 model. Also 19" wheels are not an option anymore when that package is selected. The 60 is defaulted to the M-Sport with 20" wheels and priced that way. So I guess they let you downgrade both for free.
Not quite the same thing though

Just saw this thread, congrats OP in the order of your new ride, hate to lose you to the "dark side" but perhaps there might still be undiscovered "light" on the "dark side"?

I am just glad after all that you finally able to try something else and I understand you like the idea of a new vehicle which MB couldn't deliver based on your needs... yet. Not all hope is lost if MB is focusing on slowing down electrification (I guess?) Either way, hopefully the new 7er will treat you well. Best of luck!
