2023 s580 tire wheel issues?




I just bought from them OEM center caps for my Alpina. Packaging is great, shipped so quickly, they handled VAT docs, and made sure all of them have 4 matching keys. They respond very quickly to emails too. They sell a lot of OEM items.
Hi. Can you please advise what your situation was? I have had three tire blowouts that I paid for myself at the local tire shop. I may have complaints each time when I called Mercedes. Did you take your car in every time to the dealership when this happened? How many times did they blow out? Did you have to take the car to the dealership?

so, take a guess, I’m getting ready to replace my 21 580. Do you think it’ll be with another Mercedes?
I am in California and there's a company called America's tire Company / discount tire and they offer certificates on the tires. When the car was new I took it there and spent $300 and the tires were insured against any issue where they could not repair the tires. And all my incidents, the sidewall went out so the tire needed to be changed. They replaced four to five tires for free and all I had to pay was about $60 for the certificate on the replacement tired. This saves me a fortune.
I am also reading that Michelin tires might be a better fit for the car over the pirelli tires that come with it. In fact, the s63 I saw in the dealership does not have pirelli tires anymore. As I mentioned, I traded mine in earlier for another car. I sold the car to GOT IN.com paid me approximately $10,000 more for the car than any Mercedes dealership or any other dealership was willing to pay.. it was a very hassle free experience and the car was sold with an idea no questions asked.
Mercedes also did something very stupid by making these tires non-run flat tires anymore and not including a damn spare tire for $150,000! They also have a stupid policy that they will only tow the car to a local dealership. They would not tow it to the tire store one mile from my house, when the local dealership was 10 mi away.
The correct way to handle this for anyone reading is that after every tire blowout, contact Mercedes roadside service and have them tow the car to a local Mercedes dealership. Have them make a record of the exact problem and why it's being towed. Have the dealership write up a ticket on the car including the fact that the tire blew out. Then either buy the tire from them or tow your car back (your insurance should have towing or you can get triple A for pennies) to the tire company that's going to do the replacement of the tire probably for much less. Have them replace the tire and keep records of all of these situations. The important thing is to have the Mercedes dealership record that this incident actually occurred or else they will fight you to the death.
After 3 to 4 instances, call Mercedes and express your extreme dissatisfaction, tell them you're going to report them and tell them you need them to buy your vehicle back. If that feels, get a lemon Law attorney. There was a class action lawsuit for this, but it is now close to new plaintiffs
To answer your question, Mercedes-Benz vehicles are still excellent cars and hold the test of time much better than BMW, with their ugly styling that I would never touch. There is a design flaw on this s580 with the 21-in rims and tires. All their other vehicles are fine and if you want another S-class, make sure you get it with 19 inch or 20-inch rims and tires so there is plenty of tire unlike the 21-in rims with hardly any tire. I know the 21-in rims look great, but they're not practical and will only lead to a headache. I wouldn't judge all Mercedes vehicles based on this situation. My subsequent car is in Mercedes and I'm very happy with it. I was also happy with my prior seven Mercedes-Benz vehicles I have owned.
This is in S-Class specific issue with the sports package including 21-in rims and tires. Don't let it discourage you from buying another car and let Mercedes know you will most likely buy another Mercedes if they work with you towards amicably resolving this matter.

Often quoted reassuring “Full Front and Rear ‘4’ Wheel Alignment” is now only basic Toe - “directional” adjustment.

I went from Pirelli's to Michelin's @ R21". Best Tires ever! I went with a larger sidewall had my lowering links adjusted to 10cm all the way around and couldn't be happier! Less tire wear better in snow and comfort. No blowouts though, even with Pirelli. I live in South Central PA.
Frequent visits to the dealer . Ugh . I was about to go trade it in take the loss and just move on . Until . Back roads. Northeast. sport + . It was a beast. the 21's were perfect for that . My new mindset is that slowly drive it out of the city gentle. don't hit anything. then once upstate . Back roads. enjoy . I don't use as a daily. it's my leave the city car . Flame me. But you got to admit. the 21's when on the right roads. right conditions. are brilliant. 2021 > S580 > Feature Delete .

I can tell you really love the car like I did and I also tried justifying keeping it with this tire issue. I ended up keeping my car for 1 year and 4 months and I couldn't take it anymore. I had anxiety to drive more than 20 mi away from my home and I couldn't even take it on any trips to other cities like Las Vegas when I'm three and a half miles away. That should be a dream Ride in a Mercedes s580, not a disaster and not something to be nervous about..
This is a known issue on this car and Mercedes doesn't do anything about it. I gave up and dumped the car. I went with a different Mercedes that does not have this wheel and tire issue.
I hope you like the car, but just be aware of the road ahead.
You can protect yourself by towing it each time to a Mercedes dealer to document the issue. After three or four more issues, get a lemon law lawyer and get MBZ to buy it back.
As the person who started the thread on these blowouts about three years ago, I cannot believe the hundreds - probably thousands - of failures the S580s have had with this setup. And Mercedes does not own up to this design failure. As I’ve reported before, I replaced my Pirellis, after three blowouts with Michelins and, so far, no problems. Moving to Florida with better roads than 3rd world San Diego has, must help.. But, after spending 140k on a car, who wants to be spending time behind the wheel worrying about one of their tires blowing out?

What did you have to do to have the lowering links adjusted to 10cm? is that something the tire place can do? Or a dealer or shop?
Those are great looking wheels on yours. They are 21" I'm assuming?
what size tire did you put on with those wheels? Are they staggered front to back?
Will they work if you don't adjust the links?




Yes, the wheels are 21" staggered.
You should be able to zoom in and see: 255/40/21 - Front, 295/35/21 - Rear
If you don't have a lowering kit on your vehicle, they will work (I would recommend spacers).

but I mean if mostly stop and go traffic, it makes sense why that speed.
