2002 S55 AMG and the S550

Just a little small question for you all. I would like to know...

Which sedan is considered "faster"? I already know the 2002 S55 AMG has a 5.5 Liter Natural V8 making 354 Horses with an unknown amount of torque.

The S550 also has a V-8 with 382 Horses. From what I've seen and heard, the S550 accelerates slightly faster (5.4 seconds to 60 mph) while the AMG goes 5.7 seconds to 60 mph.

As a general question, which is basically faster? I'm thinking both cars have simliar amounts of torque too and almost the same weight?

I just wanted to also know if anybody else here on this board has an older S55 AMG.

If I'm not mistaken they both make 391tq to the crank. In a drag race I would guess the 550 would win given more hp(28) plus new technology with the 7 speed tranny and what not.

I strongly believe a 01-02 S55 will win head to head. I have a 2001 Road & Track, and the 01 S55 performance numbers are better from 0-80, and 0-100. Not to mention the 1/4 mile(tenth of a sec). Performance numbers will vary by magazine.

And finally, seeing that the 5550 has a 500 pound(est) disadvantage in total weight, the S55 should squeak by.

I drove a 2001 E55 amg. Raced an all new S550. From a dead stop to approximately 70mph. The S550 pulled on me about 2 car lenghts at the end before I gave up. So to answer your question from personal experience, the S550 is slightly faster. Must be the newer technology and the trans.

It's quite possible. The S550 weighs 700 pounds more, but has 33 HP more and 2 more gears. The usual rule of thumb is that you need 7 HP to make up for 100 pounds. So the E55 should have the equivalent of 16 more HP, which isn't a huge edge when you consider the S550 can stay on it's power band better because of the closer gearing.

It's a real wasabi root and the grater, made of sting ray skin, used to grate it. 99% of the wasabi you get in sushi bars in this country (and even 90% in Japan) is nothing but horseradish powder dyed green. Real wasabi is very labor intensive to grow, but is as different from fake wasabi as Chateau Margaux is from Thunderbird. A root like the one in the avatar is about $30, but will last a couple of weeks if well cared for in the fridge. I found the grater in San Francisco's Japantown.

I'm into Japanese food.

A strange combination for your shopping list. The 2002 S55 can be picked up reasonably easy for under 30K for a well-maintained specimen. The S550 on the other hand, is still about three times as much.

By the way, I think the S550 should be quicker than the 02 S 55. Other than weight, the S550 prety much outdoes [what to it is a grandpa in car generations] the older model by several degrees of separation.

Huh?

'01 S55 is N/A and CLS55 is S/C (same engine as '03+ S55 = 100+ more horses and torque at the crank).

You must've found a heat-soaked or severely ill CLS55.

2002 s55 amg
hey guys need some help. it rained last monday during the hawks game. my car was outside. apparently the water got in and my passenger side front got flooded. so my alarm went off for a night.
1) one touch doesnt work for windows or sun roof.
2) gas gauge doesnt work
3) tailights stay on, i believe its the brake lights.

so i keep disconnecting the negative so the tailights dont drain the battery. what can be the problem? please help!!!

Wow that sucks. Hopefully if you let it dry out good these problems will go away. Maybe take a hairdryer and dry out the door panel. I'm just guessing what I would try. Good luck.
