Fake S55?...
A guy where I work has a dark blue S-Class with an S55 bagde on the back and Komressor badges on the front wings.
I'm not sure if it's a fake.
It has similar wheels to my W210 E55 (traditional AMG style) and twin (single) exhausts. It also has wood trim inside.
What should I look for to convince me it's real? My E55 has the AMG logo on the speedo for example.
It's a UK model.

Not necessarily. W210 E55's had a single, twin exhaust. W211's have quad. I would look at the seats and instruments. If they don't have AMG marks, then it's a fake. Also, just listen to the engine. There is no way to make a stock engine sound like a supercharged engine.

01-02 s55's had twin single exhausts...if it says nothing on the side it would be an 01-02 s55...but since it says "kompressor", he might have just added the emblem to an older model s55...

2000 Mercedes E55 AMG W210
Thanks for all your info.
I wont get a chance to have a look at the engine so I'll try and get a closer look of the interior etc. It's a W220 model, so where should it have an AMG logo inside? I havent heard it drive either.
Also, what wheels did a UK S55 come with? This particular car has AMG monoblocks with polished rims and not the split spoke wheels I have seen on others.
My betting is that it's an S320 badged up!
Another AMG wannabe me thinks.

So are people doing that to 'show off', and act like their car is 'better' than it really is? Also, random question, but is it possible to get part of the AMG package w/o getting the entire thing (no, not the badge) i.e. the wheels?

The second question is a good one. Yes and no. The older models like the W220, W211, W163, W215, C219, R230, etc. had Sport Packages that looked, for the most part, almost exactly like the AMG counterpart. Usually the only things that would give it away as a normal version were the brakes, exhaust tips (or lack thereof), and obviously the engine.
Now though, MB has done a pretty good job making Sport Packages without completely copying the AMG version. Take a look at W221, facelifted W211, W204, W216 models and their AMG versions. They still look sporty and look very nice, but they do it without looking exactly like the AMG models now.

Yeah, they're just trying to compensate for lack of a certain part of the human anatomy...

I'm very new to all of this, and dont really know much about cars in general, so a lot of what you said went over my head. I'm just curious, because I have no use for the AMG engine, dont care about badges at all, but I absolutely love the AMG rims. I guess it would be possible to get something similar, though.
For the previous designs, like I said, they were almost exactly the same. Differences usually are the exhaust tips being exposed on the AMG, and the larger brakes on the AMG. Like here:
W220 S55 AMG
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2005-...QQcmdZViewItem
W220 S500 w/ Sport Package
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2006-...QQcmdZViewItem
They look almost exactly the same.
For a lot of the new designs, you won't be able to buy the sport package and get the exact same design as the AMG (depends on the model though, although they're mostly different now).
W221 S65 AMG
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/07-S6...QQcmdZViewItem
W221 S550 w/ AMG Sport Package
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/08-ME...QQcmdZViewItem
So for the newer models, they'll look sportier, but not the same as AMG anymore.
