May buy a 08, 50k mi S63 tomorrow. $6k for the Continental warranty. Smart?

Hi guys,

Love the S63 since it first came out in 08. Found one that is almost in my price range now. Ok, so I can afford it. Yes. It's crazy! They want $6k for the Continental Warranty for 5 yr, 100K miles. That's A LOT of money for a warranty. I keep my cars a long time, typically. I normally drive 15k a year or so...

The car has the previous owners Certified warranty till November. He thinks the dealer would honor it till then but isn't 100 % sure unless I misunderstood that.

It's silver/blk, the exact color I've always wanted. About 51k miles. I'm friends with the used car mgr so I'd be getting a great deal on it. Looks to be in fairly immaculate condition.

Thoughts? This is the car to get, right? I'm 99% sure this is my time to do this but is there a better way or a better source to get this warranty from?

I drove it for about an hour. I have no idea about most of the controls on it but I guess in time I'd figure them out. Didn't seem to be able to get much air coming out of the middle air vents but that was probably user error. I drove it by myself with no one to show me how to use any of the features.

My advice is to pay the $6k for the warranty, unless they will discount it. On that car, it will pay for itself. The head unit is worth $6k alone...and i've seen a few replaced.

Warranties are generally priced according to the cost of parts.

I don't know what the continental warranty covers, but coming from someone who has over 100k in warranty claims against the factory cpo, I'd tell you not to own the car without one. There are a few guys on here who own them without, but its playing with fire in my opinion. Check that it covers ABC parts including struts, coil packs, and all the typical fail parts. They are well documented on here. And price a 4 wheel brake job for ships and giggles.

I appreciate your replies. I didn't get them in time for when I went to the dealer today but I went on intuition and intuition told me to buy it. I got it for $5685 - probably the best $5685 I'll spend on this car.

It's a 5 year, 60k warranty and covers a ton of stuff with no deductible.

Spent the whole day at the dealer working the deal, speaking with folks about service records, parts people, etc.

They're cleaning it up, fixing some wheel rash and I'll have it tomorrow night.

Glad today is over with. Highly stressful. Time to enjoy it soon!

I would have loved to take pics of it but when I drove it home, the ABC Malfunction light came on, the car became un-driveable, it raised up about 4-5 inches from the wheels so I pulled over just as I got home and let it sit for a day. I had no idea what was going on.

I drove it the next day for a bit to see if was a fluke and it didn't do anything for 30 minutes. Then it did it again so I came right home (dealership was closed)

I called the dealer last night and they said to bring it in right away. I drove it there this morning and the car was fine on the way there. The trunk doesn't open more than half way when hitting the button so they said they'd fix that too.

Oh well, that's life. I'm renting a new C250 coupe loaner car and I LOVE THIS CAR! Dk grey with that panoramic room. Supremely fun vehicle.

Here's pics from the closed ad on Ebay of the car I bought. This is the best this car will ever look!

The front of the car including the hood seem to have a 3M on it. They salesman said it was $4k worth of the stuff. $4k? Does this start yellowing over time and become a pain to remove? It's awesome for now.

Can't imagine it looked that much better when new

Like I said. Don't own the car without a warranty for just these things...time to test it out! Keep us posted. Car is beautiful!

Oh dear, an ominous beginning. Let's hope your car is extremely reliable and never has to visit the shop again.

Thanks guys. I hope you're right. I was supposed to pick it up today and they said they found something else - one of the struts was broken and the $2k repair will be covered. They are ordering parts and it should be done mid week next week. Pretty wild - $6k in repairs and I only got to drive it one day so far. It's all good. Loving my C250 2 door rental. The panoramic roof rocks and the handling is amazing.

You gotta stop talking about that 2 door c250 if you want people on here to take you seriously.

Noticed you purchased your car from Euromotorcars in Bethesda. That's where I purchased my CL65 about a year ago. Hope your experience with their shop turns out better than mine.

The CL would throw a Check Engine light every 2 weeks for the first month and a half that I owned it. They attempted to fix it three times and each time I they said it was fixed...I had to bring it back.

I finally gave up on them and took it to American Service Center in Arlington. The shop foreman (Jack Rollo) hooked it up to the computer and said, "You know there's a software update for this car?"

I asked "why the didn't the other shop know about this"? (to put it nicely)....
After updating the ECU I never experienced the CE light again.

Now......that's not to say that ASC does not have any sh!@t with them!
