All of you guys: (Am I considered as posers too?)

I have 2002 C320. I plan to change the bodykit including the exhaust + wheels. In short, I just want to have C32 looks on mycar. However, I never have a plan to stick C32 AMG badge and V6 kompressor badge on the car. I just want to have the looks because I like its sportiness of AMG bodykits compared to Brabus/Carlsson. No offense, but I think AMG aerokits do everything I want.

So, am I considered as a poser too?
Please advise,

I don't think so, I would go for the AMG pack everytime if it was a non-AMG car, it just has so much more presence and looks alot better. But when people start sticking badges on I think thats going a bit too far, although it doesn't irritate me as much as it used to.

I used to get all worked up when I saw stuff like that, but now I guess I'm starting to realize that it isn't my car and as much as I can disagree with what the person has done to it, I still don't think I have any right to call them a poser

......this is the most intelligent comment I've read on this topic.

Huahahaha..... best poser I saw was....

190E (yes, the old and classic MB... I think the 2.6)..... put C55 and AMG badge.... luckily, I did not bring my camera.... o/w I will post the pics here....

But what I did was to drive beside him, opened my window and gave him a BIG SMILE and smoked him w/ my real AMG....

Whats even worse is at the bank there is a CL500 that is always parked outside, but it has the 55 badging and everything that a 55 would have, but none of the exhaust or rims.

Theres a real 55 though in the garage that parks next to my dads spot!

I'm not old enough to have my own parking spot in the garage yet

I just took delivery of an '04 600L. I am lowering it by 15mm, adding the AMG exhausts, chipping it and debadging it. I may even add the AMG body kit. I could have bought an S55, but having a 650hp E55, the S55 would have been a bit of a joke.
By your definitions am I too a poser?

Yes :p :p

Unless we want to change the definitions :p

Usually ppl debadge their car to make other ppl think that it is a more expensive car... like S500 (or even S320) got debadged to make ppl think it is an S55....

Every time I see a debadged car, it always makes me think that the owner could not afford buying the real one. :p

If you have S600, why do you want to debadge it? Aren't you proud w/ the V12 emblem that comes with the car? If you just put AMG badge, ppl like me would probably doubt the V12 badge as well. :p No offense...

My personal opinion is that a car should be genuine and original. Never have I ever modified a car to a great extent.

By definition debadging the car means not putting on AMG badges.

That really depends on the country!

In Germany, I would say that the majority of large MB's (500, 600) are actually debadged (this used to be even done from the factory as a chargeable Mercedes option; don't know if that is still around). Interestingly enough I understand that most German-delivered AMG 65 models will be delivered debadged as well.

The reason? Most of these cars are business cars and often long-distance travel cars yet it was always considered bad form to drive a bigger car than your customers, who naturally translated the size of cars to the size of product margins

I had a situation where I commented on a vendors car who ended up telling me that he drove a S320 when I knew it was a S600...It was supposed to be a compliment...Wonder what you call these people?

Also, correct me if I am wrong but I seem to remember that in the beginning of MB offering the sport package it was actually called the AMG body package and was badged from MB with an AMG badge (would show something like SL500 AMG). They later discontinued that practice...

Yep, agreed!

IMO it is nothing wrong to have AMG badge if you have AMG package installed (i.e. skirts, bumpers, wheels)
But changing labels to S55 and adding V8 Kompressor - that's a real fake! If I would have S320 or S430 and try to "upgrade its look" I would rather debage it..
