Boosting these cars can cause weird electrical problems. slow charge the battery overnight, then if it still holds a charge after being dead flat, start the car and check voltage while it's running to see if the alternator is working. If you're in a hurry, drop in a fully charged battery to check it.

If you lose all power, you have a discharged or bad battery. Fix that first.
Jumpstarting these cars is not easy, they require a ton of initial power to start and if the battery is weak it won't work well anyway. Just get the battery replaced and see what happens.

But a 40min charge means nothing on these power hungry beasts.
Good luck.

Did you ever resolve this problem? I'm currently in a bind. Just picked up a 2001 s55. I knew it had little problems that I'd be able to fix, but this one has got me in despair. Set aside all the other problems, after work I put some stuff in the trunk. I noticed some ticking noise on the left side of the trunk. I see there's some loose wires so I gently pulled them out to make sure nothing was grounding out by separating them. Continued to put my items in the trunk and went to start the car. Same exact thing as you descibed. Except for one thing that u noticed. After getting power to the car and turning the key it would make a clicking noise as if it was the starter. Just not as loud like on other cars. Besides what are the odds of my starter going bad at the same time my battery dies out. This is just the tip of the nightmare I'm going through. Sorry for jacking your thread. I'm just looking for answers for the exact problem you were having.
