Engine oil dipstick for M275
Has anyone actually found an engine oil dipstick for our 6.0 V12TT engines? If so, care to share a part number or where it was purchased?

The only part # listed is the workshop dipstick, which isn't a replacement for the cap and is only used to verify the electronic system is working.
Use the diagnostic mode in the cluster to view the level readout. It's quite accurate.

It's pretty simple, with the key on but engine off, on main mileage/trip display, press the little "R" button on the side of the cluster 3 times quickly. You should hear a beep, and it should display voltage. This is the workshop menu, and you can scroll through it with your steering wheel buttons as with any other menu. One page will have the current oil level readout in liters or quarts, I don't recall. You can see it while off or running, unlike the standard oil check screen that only works with the engine off.

Additionally, when trying to check oil level the regular way, the screen says PERF. SERV. ON TIME.
Edit: never mind. Had to wait about 10 minutes for stopping the engine to get a reading. However, trying to read the oil level from the service screen only shows --.- QTS until the engine is started, and then I saw a value go from ~9 qts down to 6.2 which I thought was strange. Why doesn't it give me a reading with the engine off?

With the key on and engine off it gives no reading? That is odd, my car doesn't do that, it shows the reading with the engine running or not. Key must be on though.

Yes, key set to ON position. Next position would have started the engine. Within the service menu, the oil read out just shows --.- QTS until the engine is started.
Maybe this functionality is a bit different for the S65?

I use the same dipstick I use to check the transmission fluid one level is for cold and the other when the trans is warm.
For the oil level, right after an oil & filter change with the 10.5 qts. (I always put in 11) and measuring the level the following day when the car has sat overnight after driving, the oil should be right at the black mark I have on the metal portion. Almost 5 inches from the plastic tip.
Readings for both levels are 100% accurate. Tom
Bought it off Amazon. $25

Thanks Tom, that's fantastic. I'll order one of those dipsticks.

Quick question about the dipstick described above. Since our cars have the 722.6 5-speed transmission, when the gearbox is hot, should the fluid level be between the 80* hash marks and when cold, between the 25* marks?

Yes when warm it should be within the 80 marks. To measure the transmission fluid though, you have to make sure you get the dipstick all the way to the bottom of the transmission pan by wiggling it some. It will feel like it stops initially but then when you move it a little it will drop in about another 3 inches or so. Watched the service manager at the dealership do it once so I knew how far it needed to go in.
I would say there is about a foot or so of the dipstick that still sticks out even when measuring the trans fluid.
Even more of it when measuring the oil.
