Oh What to do :0

Ok guys I am again sure this has been discussed. LOL

I have been bitten by the MB bug. Imagine a Horse power junky not wanting a

Drum Roll ddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddd

I am looking for an 07 S65 or an 07 S600. Research says that the drive trains on these cars are bulletproof.

I am wondering if its better to spend a bit more and go for a car with 60 to 75k miles on it or go for a less expensive one with 100k

My reasoning is the ones with 100k should have had all the expensive bugs worked out of them. Correct me if I am wrong it does not appear to me that if you have the Star setup that these cars are not to hard to work on.

I would love some imput from some of the Gear Heads around here. My need for speed is great but my need for a bleeding wallet is not so great.

thanks for your imput

Jim

I have to agree on the higher mileage theory. I feel 50-60k miles to 100k is the worst part.. after 100-125k most of the big stuff is done.

Is there any big difference between the 06/07 other than the body style that I need to look out for?

I have been there my friend. The S65 is such an amazing machine that I still roll down the windows on start up just so I can hear the engine come to life.
Previous to my 2007 S65(W221) I had a 2003 S55(W220) which also was a fantastic car but it is also way different than the 65.
I never once have regretted buying my S65.
Just keep looking for a nice clean well maintained/documented car and be ready to make it happen when it comes around.
I had been looking for a while when I found a car in California that was owned by a liqour company that gave it to the CEO. It lived in climate control in it's regular home and it was also in climate control at the office. It also came with all the receipts from a MB dealer showing all the love that it received over the years. If there ever was an issue he just sent it in. The last invoice was for when they pulled the engine and replaced the turbos for the coolant leak issue. Could have just replaced the seals but that is not good enough for some.
Good luck.

All fast and desirable cars have their latent problems, and big Benz's are no different, but they are generally durable, and the problems are not that grievous.

Yes, STAR helps, but you can get a long way with a cheap, generic OBD2 scanner.

I am good with the OBD2. I am a Gearhead from way back but all of my experience lends itself to the older Mustangs from 65-08. I have built owned and tuned a couple of the 08 Shelby Gt500s and a hand full of corvettes which I loved dearly. Love that american Muscle.

After buying a Older home that needed all of my money several years ago all the toys had to go.

I found this E500 I have on the very cheap side and after going thru all of its issues I have found that there is not that much to be scared of it's just a Car.

The V12 perked my interest because well I had one out run my Shelby and I never forgot it. LOL

I have read the horror stories and it will make one hesitant but some of that is either their lack of ability to do their own work or the lack of understanding that a 600+ Hp cars have quirks. The availability of parts on line now seems to be great enough that we do not have to depend on the dealer or his crazy rates.

My biggest Question to the guys is to go a bit more miles with a deeper sevice history or to go lower miles. Tis the Debate. Varooommmmm

And the V12 is just a car, too. Just more.

I've had five S-class, and four were very little trouble.

The problem child, I bought at 146,000 miles, and I've had just about everything go wrong with that. I've learned the hard way how to deal with every eventuality, and now I'm left with no fear of the car or it's unreliability or it's liabilities.

If you bought a 2007 S65 with 100k miles, I can guarantee things will go wrong, but the expenses you won't be able to avoid at some point or another with be front brakes and a coil pack or two, which are just into four figures. Even then, there are cheaper options for coil packs. That's about as bad as it will probably get.

There are plenty of tall tales on the 'net about how much somebody's car cost to keep on the road, but they're usually warranty-funded repairs performed by opportunistic dealers for people who can't help themselves. Yes, there are potential disasters out there, but the risks can be mitigated by preventative maintenance. Unfortunately MB aren't much help at that, but this forum is.

It's a car for enthusiasts, and if it's your kind of car, then go for it. You will never find a faultless or trouble-free car, but as long as you have sensible expectations, you'll get a lot of car for your money.

I don't think 100k miles is a big deal.
