S65: finally got my engine mounts replaced!
All I can is WOW. What a difference. Feels like a new car. Before the mounts were replaced, I had vibration and cabin noise. It was especially noticeable at low speeds in the driver's seat. A droning harmonic was also present at 2k RPM. The low speed noise however could easily be mistaken for a blown pulsation damper but the vibration and noise signified collapsed driver side mount. After the mounts were replaced, all that vibration that I'd gotten somewhat used to over the past 8 months had completely disappeared. It's also dead quiet in the car at highway speeds.
I was planning on swapping the mounts myself, but after a little scouring, found an MB specialist in Fairfield, NJ that did the job for under $600.00. I figured having them do it would be better than renting/buying tools and spending 2 days on my back in the garage. Well worth it. Best part is, it only took them about 2.5-3 hours to replace both sides.
My old mounts (and I wish I had taken a picture of them) were completely obliterated at 60k miles. The driver side mount actually came out in 2 pieces. The rubber body that contains the fluid had cracked in half and collapsed. The passenger side while still in one piece had already leaked out half of its fluid.
Anyway, for those in the tri-state area looking to replace engine mounts, I can wholeheartedly recommend the guys over at Euro AutoWorks in Fairfield NJ. Andy and Dan are both great guys. Dan is a former MB master tech who knows these cars well.

P.S. disclaimer: I don't work for these guys, or had even used their services before today. Just wanted to provide a quick review if it'll help someone else that needs to have mounts replaced.

According to them, mine was probably the 5th V12 they've done. They fabricated some specialized tools to aid them in the process. From what I was able to witness, they did not have to drop the exhaust. They did have to move the steering rack out of the way however although not completely remove it from the vehicle. It was loosened and then supported while they replaced the mounts.

The 279 V12 now has a single cross bolt into the support arm, it just slides right out. I have a 2017 S65 engine out right now and it's much nicer to get to than my old CL mounts were.

It's always the drivers side that comes apart, that's the side that lifts under power. The other side never gets pulled apart, only compressed. When they are fully broken, it makes some really terrible noises. That little strap around the mount is there to keep the engine from going too far when the mount breaks apart, otherwise it'd be hitting the hood.

I thought so as well initially. Replaced the pulsation damper when I first noticed but that didn't solve the issue. Actually, now that I think about it, the low speed noise did reduce a tad, so maybe the pulsation damper was on its way out. Regardless, a new pulsation damper can't hurt.

Registry.
Amstel, I too, have a 2006 S65. I am compiling a registry of as many of the 427 sold in the US that I can. Can you private message me and give me your VIN? I'll also ask for some other info from you. If you would like to see my registry (an Excel file)
I'm attaching my registry.
