Swapping out Trim?

Just bought a used 2018 S63 AMG Coupe. I would prefer the carbon fibre trim. I can buy it online but want to make sure it is a straightforward process to replace. Should I take to a body shop? Is it all snap in? Looks like the dash pieces could be covered by the top of the dash? Any help would be greatly appreciated. The dealer I am buying from made it sound like a big deal to change these pieces out.

my sl, you have to take the whole interior apart, and the door panels off. I would guess at a shop about 10 to 15 hours labor.

Looks like you need to take some major components off first to install them.

That set is missing the rear pieces too. Makes me feel better about spending $3700 on the interior CF on my 2020.

@mbsldallas what interior trim does your car have ? there is some decent CF vinyl, you could consider wrapping whatever you have to get the CF look... obviously CF parts are only for cosmetics on a 4800 lb car.

personally, for the cost, you would have to want it awfully bad to spend that kind of money. I hate my walnut, but its not worth the job to change it. Id be better off to get another car.

It would be very expensive and would probably result in a squeaky, rattling interior with poorly fitted parts. Besides, carbon fibre is a bit ridiculous in a 2000 kg car.

I wasn't buying carbon fibre for weight savings, I was buying it for looks because the car I recently bought used had carbon on the outside so I was trying to match inside. Anyway - all I was looking for was feedback on whether it was possible and any issues, so I appreciate your feedback on the potential for squeakiness. But buying a new car is considerably more expensive than replacing the trim. I'm buying a CPO 2018 fully loaded with every option for $130K so I would have to pay $75K to order a new one with the interior I wanted - so $5K to replace feels much more reasonable :-)

Correct buying for cosmetics so while I appreciate the idea of the wrap I think it would potentially cheapen the otherwise beautiful S Class coupe. The car has the black poplar wood trim. I am just going to wait to see what I think about it once I pick it up in a week or so and then go from there.

Makes sense, that's exactly what I did in 2016... wanted cashmere magno paint, exterior carbon fiber, and CCBs but bought a CPO 2015 - saving about $70k - and wound up wrapping the exterior in satin pearl white and standard trim with 4D carbon fiber vinyl., and I had the calipers painted to match the factory CCBS. If you don't end up liking the black poplar and decide not to spend ~ $5000 to swap the interior trim, you have 4D carbon vinyl wrap applied to the pieces for a few hundred dollars. It won't perfectly match the real exterior CF but it ilooks fairly convincing.

Having just ordered a 2020, I opted for the interior carbon fiber but not the exterior... going to give the chrome a try but if I tire of it will have it wrapped. Strangely I outgrew the satin white and ordered magnetite black, ironically the paint color of my 2015 CPO that I wrapped.

I really wanted the rather uncommon crystal grey/black designo interior, CCBs, 3D Burmester, and interior CF so just ordered a new one. I didn't get the Magic Sky or Exterior carbon/night packages, but got everything else. Good dealer will order a car new at invoice price, if not triple net, and with the trade-in tax credit the cost difference between that and a pre-owned 2018 was probably < $50k. Still a lot, but it's nice to have a brand new car and willing to eat that over the 3-5 years I expect to have it.

If those ebay parts are genuine OEM that's a steal eventhough it's missing 2 pieces. Last quote I pulled for a w212 E63 to swap to carbon was almost $8k if I recall just in parts

Suede alternative to plastic

Another option is to forgo plastic altogether. I’m going to give this guy a try. I love the look that mcclarens have with suede vs plastic trim so will try it in my C217cab.
