Full Engine Rebuild Thread (M157)
Since I bent my rods I have decided to do a full engine rebuild with forged internals. So I thought this might be interesting to some of you guys, who are either considering reinforcing their engines or rebuilding them after a major issue. The car is 2015 S63 CP with 5.5 M157 engine, it has covered 55k miles and due to mods the rods and one piston went south. The mods were ecu tune stage2/tcu tune/exhaust/cats/downpipes/turbo-backs/blackboost cai/colder plugs. Measured dyno power output was about 740 horsepower at the crank and about 1100-1150 nm of torque. The oil was changed every 6k miles (OEM AMG 5W-40). The ecu tune was from renntech (stage 2) and the tcu tune was from weistec. Even the highest standard of care does not mean you are out of the woods if you are modded like this.
Here are my build details:
- Darton MID Sleeves
- Italian RP Gold Line Connecting Rods
- Italian RP Platinum Line Pistons
- complete replacement of all parts - head gaskets, coils, plugs, fuel injectors (for peace of mind) + about 200 various parts when you open the engine
- turbochargers will not be replaced and will stay bone stock, fuel/oil pressure pump will be checked and if okay then kept
I will post some photos and costs of this build, already now preliminary costs are about 22k USD and that is because I am doing this at a workshop, where I know the owner and have better labor rates.

H-beam rods and forged pistons? Hope so! Sleeves is smart. You are asking a lot of it.
Is there enough map up there for the turbos? You’re asking a LOT of standard size turbos.
If you bent standard rods it has been detonating. Be sure of charge temps. Turbos on the ragged edge add a LOT of heat to the charge.
You ready for broken drivetrain parts? It’s worth it.
edit... just read through the thread you mentioned. Ugly failures. We pay to play!

Thank you, for more information related to the event itself (bent rods) you can look here: https://mbworld.org/forums/w212-amg/...ce-m157-4.html
In this thread, I will only post build details.

Next week Darton MID Sleeves and ItalianRP pistons/rods/arp bolts should arrive, so we should begin the process shortly. If anyone is interested in learning about the incident itself, you can check out my bent rods thread, please refer here: https://mbworld.org/forums/w212-amg/...ence-m157.html

i think it is humbling how simple the individual components look, but they have to survive such strong forces. Just think of the explosions that those pistons have to endure...

I think it is blasphemous to stick Italian parts into an AMG engine!

2012 e63 amg & 2009 e63 amg
Are you located in the USA? If so what shop are you having to do your rebuild? I have a m157 e63 with around 146,000 miles and it drives perfectly fine right now but I did pull the spark plugs a couple days ago and a couple of them had oil on them and looked a little burnt at the top so I may need a rebuild soon myself.
