The oil flow control mod

Did the oil flow mod that disconnects the oil flow solenoid that cuts oil flow at low RPM, unplugging this solenoid restores full oil flow at all RPM's, and only caused a soft fault that did not cause a C E L. Well as part of a so called MB "emissions update", MB has changed it to a hard code, that now turns on the C E L. THANK PETE! once again Pete the "Benz Ninja" to the rescue, coded it out for me in about 30min. One of the best investment MB maintenance investments I've made.

Was your "emissions update" the one referred to in this post from the W212 forum for the M157 engine? Thanks.

I connected the harness to another solenoid to fool the ECU

interesting, so even non 2019+ model year vehicles get the CEL as long as the emissions updates is installed? did it affect the sound, what other differences did you observe.

Mine is 2015. It won't affect sound but gives you better throttle response at lower rpm. Night and day difference.

I mean the update not the mod sorry for the confusion. Emissions updates sounds like they are trying to limit the function of the car, for example ruins the exhaust note.

What is this emissions update you speak of and do you have any ideas what its called to remove it? I have a Star system so i can make changes just need a clue to get started . When i disconnected mine i got a hard fault and had to plug it back in so pretty sure mine has this update.

I don't know if it's possible to remove this update but you have 2 options. 1. buy a solenoid and plug the harness to it so the ECU believes you still have a solenoid. 2. Find someone who can erase this error by coding.

CEL came back, so I ended up getting a harness extension for the solenoid from the dealer, cut the unneeded end off the extension, loop soldered in a resistor that matched the resistance of the solenoid, plugged the modded harness into the stock harness, BINGO no more CEL.

Coding it out didn't work? That's crazy.

RESISTOR DUMMY-LOAD

What R value did you use?

Did you experiment what current threshold the ECU calls "open circuit".

The limitation for me is the heat output...
1W ok
Over 5W is a hot stick that needs venting.
Perhaps use a 10W resistor for a 5W load...

ECU control is a PWM voltage at either 10%:OFF or 90%:ON of less than 14.9VDC.

After all this time, I still don't have a replacement load in place.

Overall the pump solenoid MOD experiment allows to test:
normal oil pressure where it was halved: MOD-1
effective oil pressure at driveability Rpm: MOD-X
