Tough news, I'm now stuck parking out on the street 24/7

Ughh, my new wife who I adore, just got her new car after having an Audi A7 for 7 years and I'm relegated to the street now 24/7, forever. I love her so much and am glad to give up my garage spot for her, it's only fair, she has the newest car, but I gotta be honest, it's tough parking it outside after it's been garaged for 5 years. Pollen, rain, snow, dust, the possibility of someone sideswiping it... well, it is what it is. We don't have a driveway so it sits on the street a block from our home. Damn, it's a bit hard, a tough pill to swallow. How many of you park outside 24/7 on a side street or similiar? Some friends were like... just sell it man, that car doesn't belong on a side street! But I need a 4 door while she's at work all day with her car, sometimes. I know these cars are made to be in tough German climates, the snow, bitter cold, etc. I just never thought my car would be out there too.

Oh man, that is terrible. Un garaged cars do tend to deteriorate faster as they are constantly subjected to the elements and they become a magnet for thiefs. If it was me I would get a narrow 4 post lift for the Porsche and park the S63 under that. You can have a garage door guy come out and modify your garage door rails to go up more towards the roof of your garage and hug the ceiling and that should allow you to fit both cars on top of each other. That is what I would do as it would appear you have the ceiling space to accomodate a lift. Lift and door mod is probably no more than 5K and the lift can come in handy for other things as well.

Oh, and nice M5. Have not been a BMW fan lately with some of the design elements but if I had to drive one it would be the M5.

Nice Porsche! But kick that car to the curb and put the S63 in the garage. Spouse compromises. It is tough but correct choice to keep the spouse happy.

Happy New Wife happy new Life...

Wish I had your problems OP. New wife and Fleet are beautiful! Glad she got the 50th Anniversary Roundel on new BMW. When I lived in NYC area, especially in Queens and Brooklyn, sometimes my Brother rented empty garages from folks who didn't own a car and used the extra money in Retirement. Once he finally sold his classic Aston Martin and Ferrari he stopped renting garage space. Ex roommate who worked in Crystal City, rented a space in those Huge Parking Garage structures (that go empty most weekends) since his Condo in Clinton Maryland just had a single car Garage. He did that for about ten years before he retired from Government Service. It came in handy during the year on sunny days where he switched cars to the XKR Droptop and would then park his XF or XJ sedans overnight or over the weekend safe and secured in Virginia.

When he recently retired, moved to DC on L street to a brand new Condo that has underground parking now for his 2023 M850i droptop. He sold his 2019 XJL Collection to Carmax just before moving in. When I visit in my AMG Wagon I either have to park on the street, pay for a spot at outside parking lot, or park it down the street at Hotel's indoor parking garage for a fee. Many options since Nationals play around the corner.

I’m OK parking outside, but not parallel parking. The bumpers get hit a few times and it looks tattered. Is see some regular spots behind you garage — possible to buy one of those?

Also, congrats on the new wife and new M5!

Thanks guys.... I appreciate you all. I can't put a lift in the garage so that's totally out. I have an apartment above the garage, a carriage house, anyway, I can't do that. It's a small garage.

I'm stuck... I have to park it on the street. The parking lot behind my house is for the synagogue, there's a lot of action back there, lots of cars in and out, way too much of a chance for someone to dent the car with all the strollers and stuff so that's out.

My only chance is the sidestreet and hope no one f's up the car by parking in front and back of it and rubbing bumpers. I don't think that would happen since the 3 spots on this street are VERY large, oversized, plenty of room for people to park behind or in front of me without messing up my bumper.

I'm totally bummed about this but keeping it to myself. I never thought this would happen but it's all good. In the end, I guess... it's just stuff. It's hard to even say that because I love this car so much. There's no garage to rent near me or other options like that so... it will just sit there and I'll pray it survives OK. I was offered like $73k in an email the other day from my dealer. I thought... hmmm, what could I get for $73k? A 2014 Jeep Wrangler Polar Edition which I'd love to have but wouldn't be near as nice as this car (I went to Antarctica twice including the South Pole and the theme of the car just works for me).

Or I could get a top of the line Camry and drive it as "beater" but that doesn't really do anything to solve this problem.

Or I could get another type of car that's more suited to the street, like... a Defender (we don't have an SUV now and I never really wanted one but ... hmmm).

Well, these all seem like lame ideas since I love my MB so for now, I'll just wait and see what happens with it out there.

73K seems pretty light for that car, with the options it has. I would think at least 80K. I think it will be fine outside, I would just get it professionally detailed and have them put the max hardness ceramic coating on it that they can. A really good ceramic coating will make a big difference in how the car holds up in the elements.

damn a s63 outside in MD, thats gotta suck OP. But with the fleet you currently have seems like its the one that had to go outdoors. I would say get a car cover for it but that attracts more attention.

that dealership looks familiar. That is a true first world predicament to have. It is hard.

Stever. Sell it to me and know that it’ll go to a fellow mbworlder! I’ll garage it and hand wash it. And anytime you’re in SoCal you can have visitation rights. I’d be happier if you had a Jeep!

Your cars outmatch your dwelling. Parking a $150,000 S63 AMG on the street is ghetto!

Too funny... I don't have a choice! And it's only a $73k AMG now according to my local dealer that always is asking to by my 1 of 1 car! The only Designo Grey car produced in 2018.

Sell it and get a Base Defender 90 with 4.11 gears and steel wheels.

We park our Asian Appliances outside in Georgia and Daughter parks her Gifted Buick Encore outside in Laurel Maryland. Keep my V8s protected inside New Mexico Garage including my #3 of 3 Chevy SS. When I visit DMV I can park Inside a Lorton Virginia Garage for free in an emergency. Virginia is for Lovers... lol.

Seriously ex-roomate parked last at Garage by LA Fitness 3550 South Clark Street in Arlington, Virginia 22202 and left one of his two cars parked there for years without incident. Much higher end vehicles than his agricultural Supercharged XKR droptop and XJL Collection parked at Secured Indoor Garage Structure. He still goes to gym in retirement now in his 2023 M850i and prefers the Supermarket with Pharmacy on the Virginia side over anything by the Navy Yards or in Maryland. His original Crystal City Garage location had gone up in Rent. Arlington Garage charged him $175 per month a few years ago. I'm sure you can find a similar type setup in an Affluent Maryland location near your Batcave (where you can switch between your S63 and Porsche) if you don't want to drive to Virginia and maybe have the bonus of a great gym while your wife is at Work?

Me thinks, bigger house, bigger garage lol. That is what I am going to do eventually. Even though my S63 is old, I hate having it outside in the driveway getting filthy. So when I get the opportunity, I am just getting a bigger house with a much bigger garage.

S63 should always be inside! But since you cannot, I would do everything you can to protect it. Ceramic coating, sunshade, daily cleaning, etc. Car storage or public storage, friends house an option for the car you don't use often?

It is a gorgeous car for sure. If you work from home you could always park it the garage when your wife is at work. And Euro will low ball you. You could get more from car max.

If you decide to go with Carmax, let me know and I'll buy it immedeately. Cheaper for them to ship it to WA state than do it myself.

That really sucks, hard. That is a big downside of cities in the Northeast. The problem is so dramatic, that A&E was able to put together a hit reality show titled “Parking Wars”.
It was filmed in Philly, Detroit, Providence, Staten Island, Hempstead, and Trenton. They would have plenty of footage for cities around Maryland.
I hate the idea of leaving my car out of my sight. If I have to stay in a Motel, I want to park right outside my motel room.
At any rate, I sympathize with you. Put a Saint Christopher medal on the rear view. It can’t hurt.

Not sure if you guys realize this, but this thread was 2 years old when someone posted on it a couple days ago. The OP was able to keep the car until 8 months ago. He got hit and the car got totaled out by insurance. He bought a W223 AMG S63 E-performance in the spring of 2025: https://mbworld.org/forums/s63-amg-s...s63-today.html
