K2 w/Upgraded cooling is the BOMB!!!

OMG - just got home from some testing of my K2 upgrade and the #'s have me grinn'in from ear to ear!!! Let me describe the testing layout.

Live on a 4 lane open highway w/little/no traffic
Have Hiway patrol 1/4 mi stripes @ community entrance to my development
Would always test 1/4mi and 1/2 mile trap speeds to make sure stock cooling pump was working!
Now for the results:

Stock:

Best 1/4 mi trap speed (indicated) 116+mph(done many times)
Best 1/2 mi trap speed (indicated) 138mph
Conditions were clear / 60-78degrees (again-did this numerous times)- traction control on-sport II setting

Today-K2 w/upgraded cooling:

Best 1/4mi trap speed (indicated) 121mph (tires smoki'n thru 1st!!)
Best 1/2mi trap speed (indicated) 151mph (YES 151mph!!) Bring on the M6!!
Conditions were Humid and 91 degrees!!

This K2 p'kge w/upgraded cooling is the BOMB/UNREAL/CRAZY etc, etc....!!!

To boot Chris @ C2Designs in Tampa is going to tweak the ECU next week as there should be more to be had in the upper HP range. (A/F ratio) The Tq is a blast as 1st gear lights up from ANY speed and 2nd gear breaks loose anything between 20-35mph

Chris @ C2D was also great w/MB Tampa as he got the -10 degree fan turn on mod done. - The car has yet to see 100C on the temp guage no matter how hard I drive and it's mid 90's everyday!! Can't say enough about the K2 or C2D - This K2 ROCKS!!!

(What I'm saying to the car beside me as I'm pulling away!)

Congrats!!!! It's am awesome feeling!!!! Enjoy.

By any chance, do you or anyone out there have the specs/instructions on how to do the -10 degree fan mod? I would like to have my dealer perform this mod but they didn't know what I was talking about when I asked for it.

Same here... like a deer gazing at headlights, my dealer just looked at me and had no idea what I was talking about... and promissed not a single tech would know, either... I doubt it, but that's their official response...

If the dealer never done it before and that why they don't know. Tell them just go into the fan setting and change the fan setting to come on 10 degree cooler. That's it. It a 5 mins job.

Some where on this forum just a few weeks ago-someone had pics of the MB tech computer screen doing the fan turn on sooner. I tried to do a search to find the link, but was unsuccessful-Sorry

Damn! 151mph in the 1/2 mile is nuts. Have you had the car above 150 yet? Bet it still pulls hard. Congrats.

Actually YES! 3 different times. I have run 4th gear all the way up until shifting into 5th. The beast pulls all the way to 176mph in 4th gear and shifts automatically @ 6200 rpm. - But it's still climbing respectably @ 176!!

I'm going to investigate the Road and track "standing mile" as I believe I'm in the 175ish range in the mile and would like to see what the K2 compares to!!

All you need now is some serious rubber .... wheel spins dont count as actual performance !

Has anyone tried the 160 degree thermostat as yet?I spoke with a few mechanics regarding this, and they said that MB engine might not be design for this We have all been beating our heads against the wall to see if we can conquer this power robbing heat in the beast.
Does anyone knows if just changing the thermostat is all that is needed,or do we have to do something to the star program?

can the '-10 mod' alone net more power to the engine?

Amazing! If you lived near MD I would love to do a few runs with you for ****s and giggles. These cars are way too much for sedans. I can't wait to find the right one. Who needs a 996tt when you can have a functional 4 door.

Chris @ C2D sends it overnight to Cory - programmed same day @Kleemann
and has it back the next day. (ie;ship Monday-back Wednesday)

Chris has mentioned that Kleemann has a couple of different files to "tweak" the cars performance. Hope this info helps.

I'm the tech that performed the 10* mod on dragonAMG's car. It's easy to do. Most techs don't search around inside the SDS program to see what you can cahnge.
Is there any other mod's that can be done with an SDS machine at the dealer? I've searched the net for a while looking for people that were into modifying their benz, I'm glad I've finally found some.
I'm impressed by a lot of the mods that I've read about being performed here. There's no better feeling than sitting in the stands at the 1/4 mile and listening to people talk smack when a benz pulls up to the line. Then the benz spanks what ever it's racing and hear the silence.
Just found out today I'm going to SLR training in september, can't wait.

What exactly does Kleeman do to the cooling system?
I don't have access to Kleeman in S.A., so i thought i could try to replicate it as close as possible.

Think all they do is change the pump from the Bosch to the Johnson marine pump (it has higher flow rate) - but looks pretty similar.

I am a bit sceptical of the longevity of the Johnson pump due to the coolant temps and think this pump below is the daddy to use on an upgrade ...

http://www.stewartcomponents.net/Mer...Code=ElectPump

Fitting more of a pain but much better flow rate and pressure.

Intercooler pump sees cooled water coming out from the secondary radiator, it never deals with hot water. So it is not an issue.

Both pumps are good and flow just about the same (90 LPM @ 0 psi), the problem with Stewart has to do with installation, it is a lot more complicated vs. Johnson.
