Voice commands replacing haptic buttons

My biggest epiphany in efficiently changing climate and entertainment in my E450 was realizing the best way is to tap the face button on the wheel and state a command. Some of my most used commands include:
  • Shuffle
  • Next Song
  • Seat Ventilation on/off or <number>
  • Roof blind open/close
  • Temperature <number>
  • etc…
Using the face button is a lot quicker than “hey Mercedes” as it bypasses the call/response dialogue. Voice commands are a lot more safe to use than touch interface. I suppose if active dialogue is occurring in the car with others than it can be annoying… but then others can tap their Superscreen to make changes. Finally, much less fingerprint clean up. I was also pleased to learn from another recent post that a long press on the face gives me access to CarPlay so I can request Siri read me my latest texts. Now knowing the importance of the face button in my work flow I would love to have it in a more intuitive location .

I agree, I have the voice activation turned off completely and only use that button.

I'll try the button. I've just been using "hey Mercedes" or "hey Siri."

Has anyone compiled a list of commands that "hey Mercedes" understands?

This is a very useful and important topic. I wonder if one can pin a leader comment at the top of the thread so this can be added to? I won't be surprised if the list is long.

One I can add is:
<turn (on/off) HeadsUp Display>

The "Long Press" to get to CarPlay has been around a long time, even before CarPlay integration came about. I remember showing a sales guy in a showroom SLS how a long press of the phone button would bring up Siri and allow him to do many Apple-related things handsfree.

By the way you can also ask them certain animal sounds and tell you more about the city, do some interest search, research of a topic, tell you more about the brand say ask tell me more about Mercedes, etc.

I have also turned off the “voice” activation and always use the face button - much more efficient - plus a bonus, the face button does not randomly bother you by asking “How can I help you?".

Yup that's the way to do it.

When MBUX was not automatically changing media sources and the sound was muted, I used "Change Media Source to <XM/USB/Amazon Music>."
